The UFB Project / Crossfires get wicked

We've been running this project for about 6 weeks now. A total conversion of 2 crossfires, starting with the 150r and we'll finish with the old yellow 150.

We post a weekly update on youtube every sunday night with the exception of this past Sunday. We missed one day of work but well catch up next week

http://www.youtube.com/user/buggynuts5

watch the Crossfire UFB Project parts 1 thru 5. When the job is complete we will run a final video of all the details of the project.

Also Justinsane on has installed the first Turbo unit on a 150cc, you can find his link here: http://www.buggymasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242

Hope you guys enjoy

24evanwilson 09-28-2009 02:46 PM

cool

BuggyMaster 09-28-2009 05:58 PM

that's awesome.

What was the tube you installed from the top of the head back to the intake? Just for PCV?

Krusekontrol 09-29-2009 08:05 PM

Yes but mostly for brace on the intake and hold the coil.

Krusekontrol 10-15-2009 10:34 PM

Forgot to post an udate. We got back on track with the project and expect to road test 1 of the UFB's this weekend

While we were waiting for for a carb I had my kids do some work on the project.
Enjoy

Krusekontrol 10-20-2009 05:38 PM

we did the first test run during the kidnme rally. the suspension and carb setup are not complete but we couldn't wait anymore. even with the bad carb and some blowby we were still breaking 50 with no effort. We finished the sprocket and intake after this test. but suspension parts are still not here yet.

hope you guys enjoy

BuggyMaster 10-20-2009 06:57 PM

Remind me what engine you put on there?

Krusekontrol 10-20-2009 07:26 PM

That one has the 400 and the next one we think were gonna drop the 440 in it. Not sure what were doing for the third one.

BuggyMaster 10-20-2009 07:44 PM

How did you handle the drive system back to the axle? Did you use a jackshaft or a totally different axle set up all together?

Krusekontrol 10-21-2009 05:53 PM

The 400 was an easy swap. We turned the axle around and everything lined up perfectly with the original axle. We welded the bike sprocket onto the buggy sprocket and made our own slack adjuster. It was a cake walk. The hardest part was welding in the posts to support the front of the motor. That had to be perfect and we only wanted to do it once. refitting after you weld it up really sucks. But over all this is a very easy conversion for anyone with some basic skills.

BuggyMaster 10-21-2009 08:51 PM

Very cool. I thought about the ol' axle flip but how do you handle the brakes after that? Seems to me the caliper mounts are welded in on the opposite side and designed / oriented for that side.

Krusekontrol 10-22-2009 02:30 PM

The swing arm was cut into several pieces for the expansion and welded back together with the caliper bolt tubes on the other side. The swing arm also have a slight angle just before the axle. I think the cut away was in part 2

well I got my new laptop and sofware up and running, So now I can continue with the vids for the UFB project. We are wrapping up the first one and starting 2 more.

The second one will be my buggy and we are going with the 440 option. The third one will belong to the league Director of NEBA aka Racemybuick, we will be adding a 750 to his buggy.

here is a clip of the latest vid with the new sofware. UFB part 8

That's great. A master fabricator in training as well as a spokesmodel!

So she says the first one's done....lets see it!

Great vid.

24evanwilson 11-08-2009 07:28 PM

lil kids with power tools lol

Krusekontrol 12-07-2009 07:18 PM

Sorry I haven't kept up with the thread.

We are up to part 11 in the UFB vids.
Here's a link to our vids.

The test run for the UFB002 will be this weekend and then we start the build on UFB003.

Krusekontrol 12-14-2009 12:26 PM

The weather put us back a little but we fired her up this weekend, Just have to pick up some more steel to finish up the swing arm.

roysheepdog 12-14-2009 05:32 PM

so whats it like driving these things at top speed?im guessing thay will go around 60 or so how do thay respond at that speed?

Krusekontrol 12-15-2009 10:03 PM

with the swing arm you still have limits. These machines are built manily for power on the trails but on the flats we expect UFB 001 to break 80 if it has the room and UFB 002 about 60. we really won't know for sure how the gearing will work on top end unitl we have enough room to open them up. UFB 001 has not hit 3 gear yet and it was already over 50mph.

Once we get the room we'll be sure to let everyone know.

roysheepdog 12-15-2009 10:33 PM

how much hp do you think 001 has.

Krusekontrol 12-16-2009 05:47 PM

I think that engine is about 40 - 45hp.

joshstep1 12-16-2009 09:16 PM

Gees o freakin' pete! That's a lot of power!

I'm trying to follow how you handled the transmission. So you have a torque converter setup to a jack shaft and then that jackshaft turns the wheels? If such is the case, I couldn't tell how the jackshaft was supported.

Krusekontrol 12-17-2009 03:39 PM

The shaft is in the original housing from the snowmobile, we just welded the left side to the frame brackets we made and on the right side we had to make a new bracket to hold the the original bearing cap, and just locked it all together. The snowmobile engines are pretty easy to work with. There are so many ways to mount it and set up the tranny. I might use more of these motors for other builds in the future.

Krusekontrol 01-13-2010 05:46 PM

well I finally got off my butt and bought a heater for the Man Cave, so we are back in business with the UFB projects. we'll start new video updates ASAP.

The UFB 003 is coming on the floor next. 150R conversion 750cc

Krusekontrol 01-22-2010 02:19 PM

we started on UFB 003. We are going with and IRS instead of the swingarm for this beast. I lost a lot of video somehow of the 002 test ride and some of the startup of UFB 003 but I was able to slap together what I had left for part 13 of the ufb project.

Enjoy

BuggyMaster 01-23-2010 01:47 AM

excellent vid. Super good info in there. Lets see them bad boys run!

Krusekontrol 01-23-2010 03:21 PM

As soon as we get the 003 ready for testing I want to do a vid of all 3 running, then I will slap together my wifes and start the fun parts of painting and lighting.

RMB, the owner of 003 is shipping up some parts I need for his build. I was told they would be here on wednesday but they never got here. :( Hope they get here today so I don't miss a weekend.

I was so much easier to just use the bike frame. Plus I had fun cutting up the bike LOL!

racemybuick 03-01-2010 10:47 PM

you guys have NO IDEA how awesome this is!!! THe buggy master Krusekontrol, and his fabrication scientist have made my year!!! We just got finished paying for a fully independent rear set-up, and im in the market for a nice set of wheels to go with the power!!! 7500 is HEAVY as well as powerful... these machines on a bike ran about 110 stock, and Im not looking to do that in the buggy (well....maybe later...) BUT, we are looking for a monster to be reckoned with!!! I cant wait!!!!

Im thinking black and orange for paint Vinster... Make it the ARMAGEDON 750 to go along with the red DOOM 150!!! lol

These projects are sick!!!

John:)

EJ Mac 03-02-2010 01:57 PM

I can't wait til June to see these bad boys in person.

Krusekontrol 03-02-2010 03:17 PM

We've had our share of setbacks with weather, working a day job and getting parts but I'm sure we will still have all of them ready for the national rally.

And orange and black is a nice combo for the 750.

Krusekontrol 03-03-2010 06:00 PM

Your parts are on the way John! Your buggy will be back on the floor as soon as the parts arrive.

racemybuick 03-03-2010 07:17 PM

Well all you Helix lovers the UFB Project has just rolled in another buggy to get ripped apart and rebuilt. The Helix was just delivered tonight about 10pm. I'll get some photos up ASAP.

Our plans are to just fix her for now so she can be used for some upcoming rallies but then she will be torn down and rebuilt with a little more power.

BuggyMaster 03-14-2010 11:25 AM

awesome!

24evanwilson 03-14-2010 02:09 PM

sweetness!!!!

kliff 04-10-2010 05:25 PM

Pics amn, where are the pics? Whassup 'round here? PICS, oh pleeeeeeeeeze I need pics.....

Krusekontrol 04-10-2010 11:34 PM

We haven't got any pix of the buggy because after mark and I fixed the thing he hasn't stopped riding it. He blew the fly wheel and fan through the shroud and brought it back for another quick fix but we won't get it into the UFB project until mid summer. Sorry guys.

I've been slammed lately so it's hard for me to get on the boards but I will have some new vids and pix in the next few weeks. I'm putting together the ufb 001 paint vid tonight and should have that complete this weekend I hope.

Krusekontrol 04-12-2010 07:47 PM

Were still moving along with some paint on these puppies now.

Here a vid of the UFB 001 with some color

Updates and pics man....U&P!

EJ Mac 05-21-2010 09:30 PM

Vinny looking good, I sure was looking forward to see them in person oh well maybe next year.

Krusekontrol 05-22-2010 04:09 PM

We also just finished some of the kidnme upgrades on little vinny's buggy and it is smoking. The old yellow crossfire is one of the slowest buggies out there, but not anymore. We also changed the sprocket on UFB 1 to keep it a little slower. She runs at a safe 55mph rather then 75mph.

Safe fast and fun is always better then crazy broken bone fun

chuckorlando 05-22-2010 05:29 PM

Some times it comes down to if your the one watching or the one doing. Like the stripes man. You should paint the front rims blue and the rear rims red both with a white lip.

Krusekontrol 05-23-2010 07:19 AM

we already plainted them red. but I haven't taken any new video yet.

racemybuick 05-23-2010 11:41 PM

nuts vinny... buggy nuts... lol
