Engine Won't Start No Spark Replaced Most Parts

So all of a sudden my gy6 150 engine died and won't start.

I replaced the stator setup
I replaced the coil
I replaced the cdi
I replaced the stator
I replaced the spark plug
I checked the ground and its solid
I charged the battery fully

Still no spark. I tested the kill switch wire by grounding 4 and removing 5 pin as I have seen suggested, no success.

What could be left.

Not sure what you have tested by description above. To test the kill switch you should have 2 wires going to it. One comes from the ignition the other goes to ground. when you make the switch you ground the ignition killing the engine. Just disconnect the wires from switch and see if you have spark. If you then get spark than switch is bad. If still no spark check the wire going to ignition to ground if grounded than the ignition switch is bad.

I tried a different known good ignition switch and still not spark or run.

I pulled the wires from the kill switch. Again no success.

Are yo getting power to the cdi?

fan4chevy 05-02-2017 01:29 PM

I believe so because the cdi green light is on the cdi box.

I was wondering if it could be a ground issue. However, the main ground looks good and well attached to the engine.

You need to check with volt meter or your just guessing.

Did you replace with the correct style cdi. Dc or a.c.?

fan4chevy 05-07-2017 09:48 PM

Yep I have an AC cdi on it scjeep4.7HO. It is kind of odd because it is an ac system but the lights will work with just key on not running. Also the cdi where there are two wire slots have one wire. I know it is ac but defies the typical AC vs DC cdi wire diagram. If I pull wires off the battery while running it still runs too. When it is working that is.

I have a meter but not sure how to use it to test the system.

Praise be to the Lord!

I got it running. It turned out that even though I replaced the stator, the new pickup coil that is part of the stator was not close to the stator housing pickup. It was like 3/16" away and did not allow for me to do any more adjustments.

So solution was that I pressed the pickup down closest as possible to the housing picking as it could go and then bent it to where it was 17 thousands gap.

I guess, the pickup bracket must have had an incorrect bend in it.

Thanks

Good deal I'm glad you figured it out.

SYCARMS 05-08-2017 11:13 PM

:party::drive: Good to hear.

fan4chevy 05-09-2017 01:11 AM

Thanks guys. I just happened to watch a youtube video and saw the guy say he sets it to 15 thousands or so and so I looked and figured out mine was so far out of tolerance.

SYCARMS 05-09-2017 09:13 AM

I have yet to work on a GY6 engine that the pickup has to be adjusted, their just bolt up with no adjustment.

fan4chevy 05-09-2017 10:32 AM

That is what I thought too. This is why I never even suspected it as a problem until I saw the video where the guy adjusted it by pushing it down to 15 thousands and then tightening it. However, as mentioned, mine was so far off that I had know adjustment and ti was still like gigantic gap. I can only imagine it was bent or something.
