Stock Carter Interceptor GTR 250

So here it is...the mighty GTR. Ask the guys that own these things how they like them and they'll tell you they are the best thing since sliced bread. Carrying a claimed 20hp SYM 250cc engine, how will it perform on the track? It's kinda heavy if you ask me. Lets see if it is all hype or if it's the real deal.

SPOILER ALERT...if you want to see the results, drag your mouse across the next few lines to highlight them. Otherwise, just watch the vid.

Standing Start 34:88 - TRACK RECORD HOLDER!
Rolling Start: 33:04 - TRACK RECORD HOLDER!

The GTR now carries the fastest recorded times on our track and is the new standing start record holder, new rolling start record holder, and fastest time ever record holder. Ya...it's the real deal.

thats a 250 right? wonder what my 300 would do. how big is your track? have you done any cvt mods

BuggyMaster 09-16-2009 03:09 PM

I need to do an actual measurement on it but you'd need all of the same obstacles to do a comparison. There are whoop-di-doos, one jump etc. The GTR would have got better times with better front suspension and bigger brakes but that's the point of doing these tests is to see how well it does as a unit. Those whoop-di-doos were hell on it. Front end literally in the air!

It's a totally stock 250.

there is a track similar to that at dp. they also have a 1/8 mile and 1/4 flat track, I am thinking about doing some runs on with mine. I know my wifes is fast just hope she dont out run me

BPNWMike 09-17-2009 11:45 AM

Holy crap, you were really moving on the backstretch!

bige 09-17-2009 12:24 PM

I have a 15 tooth top sprocket I am going to try and get on today. hopefully it will help top speed a tad

BuggyMaster 09-17-2009 01:02 PM

Ya I have to admit that I am pretty impressed with it. I think I could have pushed it even a little harder at the end of the long straight and into turn 3. I only wish i had track attacked the Pilot when I had it. It clearly would have been the number to beat and the ultimate bench mark.

Eric, won't a 15 slow you down a tad?

bige 09-17-2009 02:02 PM

no it should pick up about 3 mph. the bigger the top sprocket the more top end, carter did have a 17 tooth top sprocket that would make it run 62 mph. I can get 15,16,17 tooth ones.

bige 09-17-2009 02:07 PM

another trick to get more speed is to remove the metal bushing in the main spring.

BuggyMaster 09-17-2009 03:29 PM

Oh I was under the impression that it had a 16 on it now for some reason.

bige 09-17-2009 03:35 PM

they come with 14 tooth top sprockets and 54 tooth axle sprockets. its kinda a pain to put on, I think I will get some 17 tooth in then make the swap and put in the malossi variator

MASTERBATES 01-14-2013 04:12 PM

bige/ are you talking about the inner bushing on the main torque spring for the clutch?

SLESTAK75 01-14-2013 06:53 PM

That's one sweet ride there.

the bushing is a metal seat that the spring sets in, its easy to change but the axle sprocket is a pain

SLESTAK75 01-15-2013 10:15 AM

Is the trick with removing the bushing isolated to the 250 or would this also work on the gy6 150cc. Does this allow the pully halves to get closer together? Inquiring minds want to know. And last does removing the bushing create any potential for catastrphic failure ?

Wow the 250 really hauls!
