6,8 or 11 pole stator?
 

Hi all,

I am working on adding more accessories to my buggy gy6 150. Light bar, winch, accessory interior light, work light for the back etc,.

Is 11 pole the way to go?

Is there any instance I should not consider 11 pole?

If you have 6 pole housing should you get a complete 11 pole stator and housing as a group?

I was wondering the same thing, when I bought my 11 pole. But take a look at the $$ difference between a 8 and 11, not a bunch of money. And yes, I would buy a kit, so it's pretty much a plug and play. Again pay a little more for it, but think it is worth it.
I waited until it went on sale, and paid only $30 more over for the 11 compared to the 8.

The flywheel and stator must match so the magnets are positioned properly. The six and eight pole stators output on two phases allowing you to use your current rectifier. Although a two phase rectifier can be used with an eleven pole stator, you will not get full output without upgrading to a three phase model.

This is interesting. So to use the 11 pole you need a special rectifier. Is it hard to find those?

I can see that eight pole will give you some extra amps and sounds like the easiest. Will 8 pole run the extras I am mentioning?

The CN250 rectifier is 3-phase and will work with the 11-pole stator, but connectors do not match. Buggy Depot has a kit to address this.

If you have the really small silver rectifier with your 6-pole, you may burn it up with heavy load on the 8-pole if you let your battery run down. The slightly larger rectifier used on DC Powered CDI's does better with the 8-pole - Expect just over 100w out of this system.

There are optimizations you can do to the wiring to prevent line loss and you can swap over to a manual choke and AC powered CDI to get the most out of any stator if you're willing to do some rewiring.

Keep in mind that while the while the buggy depot 11 pole stator kit is really nice (I have it), the extra wiring from the adapter harness makes for a lot more wiring to tuck away. I couldn't get it to fit in that tiny fuse box on my Carter type buggy. It fixed the charging issues, but created another project to build a larger box to put the wiring into.

That makes sense gy6buggy88. I would think it would be worth it though to have the extra ability to add more lights, accessories, etc. and better charging though.

I have the kit as well. does work well. And harness is much bigger. But easy enough fix. Compared trying to cut, and figure out the wiring yourself.

Sycarms was mentioning that the 11 pole stator robs horsepower which we are all trying so hard to gain.

Perhaps it is better to go with an 8 pole and convert some of the lighting to led to draw less power. Then you don't lose much in HP, have a better charging system for added accessories.

Is the rectifier the same for the 6 and 8 pole? If not what is difference?

How many wires does the 11 pole rectifier have? I have seen 6 and 7 stated.

Is the stator bell the same for the 8 pole as the 6 pole or do I need to get a bell specific for the 8 pole stator?
