Newbie needs serious help

Just bought 150cc sahara with out engine.
Bought short case 157qmj from monsterscooterparts.com.
Comes with every thing needed, Carb, CDI, Coil, Rectifier, Starter relay.
Problem is I have no rear wiring harness and can't seem to find the right one.
any help on how to wire this beast up would be helpful.
I do have main harness from front!
Pic 1 Rectifier
Pic 2 Main harness from front
Pic 3 Stator wires
Pic 4 Resistor wire
Pic 5 Starter relay wires
Pic 6 From coil
Pic 7 Auto en-richer from carb
Pic 8 3 wires that come from axle

Even though you've taken great pic's and labeled them it's almost impossible to tell you what wires go where!!!Without seeing the whole system at one time. We'll also need to see the plug/plugs to give good advice. In pic #3 that plug must be from the engine as the yellow wires go to the rectifier/regulator. Coming off your engine is going to be the plug for the CDI as well. Maybe someone else can guide you further.

Thanks for responding.
I have tried to find wiring schematic but there are so many and none show the 3 yellow wire stator and none show the 5 wire rectifier.
I don't no if this engine is a/c fired or d/c fired of if it matters at this point?
Pic 1 is overall of engine compartment.
Pic 2 is of dash.
will try to post pics of plug ends tomorrow.
What does the 1 wire resistor hook to?

This is because these wires belong to the engine manufacturer!!!!Did you find a schematic for your buggy showing the ign.,kill switch, light switch & tach?
The wires from the axle are for the tach more than likely.
the plug at the far rear would have been for a tail light.
The DC or AC doesn't matter at this point (I do believe!!) since you have the engine manufacturers components CDI,regulator. these two items are plugged into the engine wires- they will get a 12v dc power supply from the buggy. If you can't find a schematic- you'll need to trace your wires and make your own diagram- color & termination point. I don't think you're missing any wiring harness!!!.
The resistor could be for the tach or the FEV (what does it look like?)

stewdog259 06-15-2012 08:52 PM

No schematic.
No Tach but does have speedometer.
Have to be missing wiring harness for backend, plugs do not match up.
Resistor looks like this one

Sorry I didn't mean tach-I mean't speedo(as the tach wouldn't work too well off the speed of the axle!! you're right! there would have been a split plug going to the speedo, soleniod.
Did this resistor come with the motor? it's probably for the FEV.I'm assuming that the other bump is a solder point? the other solder button would go to the 2 prong plug for the FEV. 12v power in on the red wire, the other button would go to the yellow, the green would be the ground for the FEV. You can just make another bullet style or spade connection splice and remove the FEV's plug end. The same would be true for the big plug from the front when you isolate what wire goes where.

stewdog259 06-15-2012 09:27 PM

Resistor came with engine setup.
Are you saying that I need to solder another wire to the resistor and attach to the FEV yellow wire and the wire thats already there goes straight to 12Vdc on battery,
green wire from FEV goes into ground.

metalstudman1 06-16-2012 12:34 AM

yes almost- If that's a solder bump!! the resistor reduces the 12v down to ? (some very low voltage as I've never measured it) you'll need to take the exisiting wire to the ignition source so it's off with the ignition and on with it on.

stewdog259 06-16-2012 01:15 AM

Wiring harness from front reads as follows.

Solid yellow wire----Light Switch
Solid Black wire ----Speedo, Ignition switch, Brake switch
Solid Brown wire----Light switch,Speedo
Solid Green wire----Kill Switch,Speedo,Ignition
Solid Red wire ----Ignition switch
Yellow-Red stripe wire----Ignition switch
Green-White stripe wire----Speedo
Green-Yellow stripe wire----Brake switch
Black-White stripe wire----Kill switch,Ignition switch

On the back side what should these wires connect to?

Oh! not to question you but that's the resistor from manufacture, wouldn't they send two wire resistor if that's what was needed for this setup?
Not sure what a solder bump is,so i don't know if that's one or not

Have you had a chance to look for the Wiring Diagram for this buggy online? They usually can be found in the manual.

Zapper 06-20-2012 06:22 AM

Yes chineseparts.com will more than likly have one.Good luck. What ever you do don't take the tape off the harness(unless aposlutly nessary) this only make it worse.

Zapper 06-20-2012 06:36 AM

I think (pic 3) reg. Do you have a 5 or 6 prong cdi

stewdog259 06-20-2012 08:50 AM

Got it running!

Got it running!

Had to use two schematics to figure it out.
Stator has 6 wires, rectifier has 5 wires and CDI has 6 prongs and uses 5 of them.
Neither schematic had the 6 wire stator so I faked it on that one.

Had to take tape off harness, couple wires had no continuity on them found them broke in the middle of harness.

Cranks and idles good now, CDI not getting hot, no wires have melted yet so I think im good to go.

Not sure if im charging the battery? Or how to tell?

Hey not to change post but im looking for used header and exhaust for this thing any one got one for sale or know were to get one!

kliff 06-20-2012 10:06 AM

Cool beans! Sometimes, that is what you gotta do, just make up your mind you're gonna fix it, take all the info you can find, and start tracing out the wires.
All the help in the help in the world can't find broken wires over the net. That's one you just have to do for yourself.
Electrical problems can be the hardest thing in the world to help someone with, long distance....you done good!

kliff 06-20-2012 10:08 AM

I see you live in Conyers, are you coming down to Durhamtown to ride this Sunday?

stewdog259 06-20-2012 10:18 AM

No, still have to find header and exhaust and all so back brake needs rebuilt,
but I hope to next time.
Im new to bugging but i think I have the buggy bug now so I might come down just to see things .
I don't live to far from there!
Thanks to everyone for great help, even if you did not respond to post i got alot of info from lurking.

kliff 06-20-2012 11:48 AM

we're going to be doing one every month, so if you can't make it this month, maybe next...July 22nd is the next one after this month.
If I had a header and or muffler, I'd send 'em your way, but unfortunately, no gotz.

Have you posted a "wanted" add at any other sites?
Is yours broken, damaged, or possibly repairable? Or do you just not have anything?

stewdog259 06-20-2012 11:58 AM

Just don't have any thing!
Thought about making header out of black galvanized gas line and just going straight out back like straight pipe?

I did post wanted on here!

x-bird 06-20-2012 12:59 PM

as far as checking you charging status goes.

Using a voltmeter, test the battery with pos and neg wires disconnected, then connected with engine not running. Should be the same, or you may have a drain. just a good thing to check. Once you have your "not running" voltage, start the buggy and check it at idle and then with the rear end up on jack stands with some throttle applied. You should see around 1.5 volts or so over your not running reading. if so, it's charging.

stewdog259 06-20-2012 01:06 PM

Thanks for the help.
Will try that, trying to make a header pipe right now!
