I just got one and boy am I excited.

Took it on a very quick test ride as it doesn't have brake pads right now.


But holy smokes..... is that thing suppose to be that loud LOL

The Torque converter deal makes so much noise its not funny lol.

Somebody spent some time on the roll cage. The CVT shouldn't be noisy!!!can you post a vid? It looks good.

I will post a vid today or tomorrow hopefully. It's dark by the time I get off of work. I also want to get some maint done on it before ruling something stupid out. I took it for a quick test ride knowing it hadn't been serviced in a long time and just sitting.

I've already lubed up everything, cleaned the carb, and added some oil to the chain and gear housing ( not sure what you call that ) It was pretty much bone dry. Got to do some reading and ensure the chain in there is tensioned properly as that could be slapping and making a noise as well.

Oh and your right. Someone definitely put in the work on the cage. It's very very very sturdy, not your shade tree weld job

I found the noise is coming from the drive pulley. It's not like a knocking or ticking its just a high pitch rubbing noise. Sounds like something is either loose in there or its rubbing metal to metal somewhere.

Nothing in the manual about removing or maintaining it so any help would be appreciated.

No idea what's "in" these ... sound of a bearing on it's way out & magnified by the outer bell?????
or clutch disk with no material left on it ...

I'll throw this in- I've never heard a clutch that loud-I'd be checking for crank shaft play.

I can feel a little play. Can i do anything about it?

Not really- an engine rebuild (splitting the cases). Usually when replacing the crank bearings you rebuild the engine since it's apart. When they fail (seize) the engine locks up. 2-strokes aren't near as expensive to rebuild as a 4-stroke and pretty simple.

I should've added- run your fuel/oil mix rich (35-40:1) to help it last longer, a little more smoke but more lubrication on the bottom end.

No that's not too much oil if it isn't fouling the plug. Back when these were made our lubricants weren't near as good as they are now- Most 2-strokes today run about 50:1.
I hope the "Fun Machine" lasts you awhile- I know you're "ear-to-ear" grins when driving it. Did you find some brake pads? Would love to see some video.

I mixed up some new gas mix so hopefully that will wake it up a lite. I mixed it to 35 to 1. I will make a video for sure. My plan is to ride it today and this weekend and then next week i will get a rebuild kit and just rebuild the whole engine. Can anyone recommend a good site with good parts at a fair price to getthe clutch puller and flywheel puller and a rebuild kit.

Oh and I did get the brake parts. Wasn't too bad I guess..... I paid like 29.99 for the rear brake pads. A little expensive but there odyssey parts.

Hopefully I will take some video today, I'm about to head out to the atv park and see if the engine holds up.

I've found a couple of good used engines on ebay so I'm gonna buy one next week and then take the one I have and start working it.

I plan on punching it out to a 300 and adding an elsinor head or possibly just a water cooled 250 head. Going to use a yz450f head gasket ( I've heard this tip somewhere else ) apparently it works with the fl250 and is just a touch thinner to give you a little more compression. Of course I'm going to rebuild the bottom end as well with new crank bearings and probably all new internals to boot.

I owned two FL 250 years ago and neither one of them sounded like that. You mentioned you crank bearing play, are you sure the back side of the clutch isn't rubbing on one of the cooling fins? Also with todays good full synthetic Pre Mix oils, I runs our Odysseys & Pilot @ 32-1.

I'll have to check that out. I'm not so sure its crank play anymore. It seems like the clutch just might be worn out and moving back and forth slightly.

I'm getting a clutch puller this week so I will pull the clutch and run it and see if the sound goes away.... if it does I'm ordering the 94c clutch system and calling it a day.

I have been mixing the fuel now to 32 : 1 and I've noticed it doesn't smoke nearly as bad lol.

I took it riding last weekend and since then I've started painting it little by little and I made a homemade snorkel for it since it cut off on me twice hitting some big puddles.

I'll add some pics here in a day or so of the new snorkel setup and hopefully I'll have pin pointed the noise.
