Hello from Caqli High Desert

Hey all, I was checking out the "Frankenbuggy" forum and had to join after reading about some of the problems people are having with their builds. I just got my Dazon Raider 150 driveable after 3 months of installing a 1977 Yamaha DT400 2 stroke and custom reverse assy. and working out the bugs. It still has a few small issues, but is driveable. Don't have any pix yet but will be posting some soon.

Welcome!

Thank you. Please remember this is a test build that has and is going through alot of configuration and option changes. This is the setup that has proven to be bulletproof for thje past couple weeks. I started with a 10hp B&S motor and 6 speed Yamaha Blaster transmission w/o reverse (B&S motor grenaded after 2 weeks). Then an 8hp B&S motor and blaster trans. Motor grenaded after 3 blocks (motor was already worn out and smoking badly). Then I tried the GY6 150cc with major mod's and blaster trans (final drive section cut off and CVT removed). Not enough power to haul my 200 lbs. around and be any fun to drive. Next motor was a Yamaha Virago 250cc V-Twin with reverse unit and output shaft off of GY6 motor as jackshaft (burnt the clutch out in 3 days). Finally I got serious and put the 1977 Yamaha DT400 air-cooled 2-stroke Enduro motor in with same reverse setup. After a few issues with the reverse/jackshaft mounting brackets not being strong enough, this is what works. Sorry guys, I can't get pix to upload. Will post pix as soon as I figure out how.

I was able to upload pix to an album on my profile page. Go check them out and let the questions flow.

That thing is going to rage. Clutch going to hold up? Can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks, it does go like a bat outta hell and no the stock clutch burned out after a week. Put in all new friction plates and steels and it still wanted to slip on every shift and I don't use the clutch to shift. I never have used a clutch to shift a motorcycle. Gotta get heavier springs and maybe Barnett Kevlar friction discs but definately need bigger sprocket on the axle and maybe a smaller one on the motor. Will take some daytime pix to post soon.

The heavier springs did the trick, no more slipping clutch . May still get a larger sprocket for the axle, we'll see. Pix to follow in a day or two.
