Keeping the CVT belt cool
5 Attachment(s)
After I lost a CVT belt in a field by my house, I made this little mod to help keep the CVT belt cool. I borrowed the idea from someone else, but don't remember who. The metal is from an old security door, and I had an old Howitt engine that I stole the side case from. Since I take this thing to the desert, I also made a little tool to hold the variator and clutch. That way I can do a belt change in the field. I am also mounting an ammo can on the HH to hold some tools and an extra belt.

Other things you can do also is:
Remove that tiny little rubber "snorkel" from the air intake towards the front of the engine. Then put a scotchbrite pad over the opening as a filter and clamp that on. Also grind down all the casting slag from the CVT cover openings. One towards the middle and 1 in the back. This will also help to keep the belt cooler. |
What I did in the snorkel area was to remove it and I clamped on a 1/4" thick piece of foam that has very little restriction. I don't normally drive in wet areas so we'll see how it works.
