electronic governor ????

hi newbie here, just bought a 2 year old asw carbide 7150. looks really cool and the kids love it. but it only goes 20 mph. the guy i purchased it from said there was some sort of electronic governor put on it when it was assembled for his kids. i did some research and thought it was just the CDI. So far i have replaced the CDI, fuel filter, air filter, spark plug/ spark plug wire and the fuel cap. the buggy runs awesome but the rpms drop once it hits 20 mph. any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi and welcome

This is what I found. Maybe it will help if you find this part and unplug it.

sorry it took so long to get back to you, the washer is for a different model and the other piece is the cdi which i already replaced.its very odd because the buggy runs great and you can feel somthing holding the motor back from opening up. i feel like its somthing so simple but i just haven't found it yet.

"This kit will govern the the speed of your unit and limit it to 20 mph."
That is what it says on ASW site.
I don't know what else to tell you. I don't know much about it but it sounds like that is your problem. Maybe if you remove just that box and see what happens...

What did you replace the CDI with? Aftermarket?? Also, if it does in fact have the washer in it you would not notice any affect on the rpm's. It would still rev all the way up it just wouldn't go as fast as possible. The throttle cable could be set up to only rev to a certain point. Have someone sit in the seat and put the peddle to the floor, then go to the carb and see if the throttle is actually wide open or if it can go further.

i did try and run it without the cdi , but it wouldnt start. the cdi i purchased was from asw , it was the only one listed in the 150 cc area. it does look the same as the one i replaced though. i will try and check the carb tonight and see if it does open all the way. thanks
