mso/mco registration documents ... help

I bought my go kart Nov-2015, the dealer on their site states "Free MSO/ MCO registration documents".

Well, 4 1/2 months later I still don't have them, nor am I clear the law here in Michigan.

a) do I need them? I assume I do
b) do others get them within a reasonable time frame, like 30 days after delivery?

So nobody here has feedback on mso/mco registration documents?

I don't know about Michigan, but here in SC you don't need any such papers for a buggy such as these. these are considered off road here and doesn't have to be titled.

if you bought it new you should at least receive a bill of sale, or an invoice though. Either one of these should have the serial # on it and would prove ownership.

In states where you must register to get an off-road sticker, the title is important. In areas that have day use or no fees, this is less of a concern. Typically areas that do not title off-road vehicles have greater theft rates since the VIN's are not tracked.

New York does not require you to register ATV'S if used exclusively on you own land , however most club , and ATV parks require reg. and insurance . For machines with no previous title or certificate of origin the DMV have easy forms to fill and usually require a vin pencil etching if stamped , a picture of vin , or a signed verification from a law enforcement officer . Yearly fees are usually $17-$25 for a plate and 12 month sticker . I insure all of my machines thru Allstate Offroad Polcies , $50 a year per machine . Includes fire & theft , collision , $100,000 property damage , injury & medical , and liability coverage . Fall off trailer they're covered .... Can't beat it ! Plus if you're somewhere you shouldn't be etc. Law enforcement usually goes easier on you when your all paper'd and sticker'd up . Mich. might be different , call your DMV . :cheers: Also , papers from the dealer or not , N.Y. does not issue titles like for cars to ATV's , instead it's a transferable registration and also provides proof of ownership . In some instances , machines are usually towed and impounded until / or if you can show a Registration . :argue: :swordfight:

Thanks for feedback;

I did try to read the Michigan SOS info, and could not really find some specific item for off road vehicles, so probably the best way is go to the office in person and ask....

The place I bought the gokart from here is from their webpage:

That's just a sales tactic , some distributors offer "FREE" Manufacturers Certificate of Origin , while others charge you for it . Regardless your supposed to receive it ether way . Like I said previously , their are ways around it with the N.Y. DMV .
