Can anyone make these?
I have been mulling over making my own motorcycle tire balancer for a bit, and can't really find the cones in the sizes I want without buying an entire balancer assembly, which would negate building my own. The main reason I want to build one is so it can be more portable than the ones on the market, and it can be stashed in my toolbox for safe keeping. Below is what I was looking at, but the sizes don't match what I want, I would like the cones to range from 5/8" at the small end of the taper, and max out at 1.5" at the top, with a provision for a small set screw, I can add the set screw, just need someone with a tool lathe to get the precision stuff cut. I am willing to pay a reasonable cost plus shipping.

would a step drill bit work for what you want?

or a stepped counter sink bit?

Not really, plus it would need to be hollow through the middle for the shaft. The taper is for multiple inner bearing race sizes. I found it is cheaper to just buy a cheap balancer and replace the questionable parts, mainly the shaft.

Master,
A little more info is needed. There really isn't any way to do it cheaper, but it is more about what you want or need. I just mocked up a couple of different tapers. As you can see, there is considerable differences just from the change in length. Also, we always have to have a way to grasp it. That's why there is a straight shoulder. |
Thanks anyways, I decided not to build one, rather I am going to buy a cheap balancer with the cones, and replace the shaft right away, since that is always bent right out of the box.

just open the box in the store and check before you buy it
if they are bent make the manager aware so he can send them back/make a note in the system he may have old stock and need to get them replaced with newer ones that most likely have been fixed by now ive talked with my store's manager a number of times but definitely just open the box before buying it to check |
