Reverse unit on other engines
Has anyone used a GY6 reverse unit on different motors? I am thinking about trying to use one with a Honda ATC 200 engine. It seems like the unit itself would be strong enough for the power of the motor if it is mounted solidly. I have a couple of spare GY6s and I was thinking about using the Gy6 output shaft as a jack shaft between the motor and the reverse unit. Has anyone tried this?

not that i'm aware of, but in theory it should work.

It depends on the design of the gears.when it comes to reverse. Reverse could strip out if the gear is desig ed with a curved angle.to much stress in reverse could cause cause it to strip.I've seen a few trucks trannys reverse gears stripped from this being stuck in mud trying to back out of it.just a thought.

Yeah that happens to Vws also. The shift fork (cage) is made from some type of bronze/brass, so when you try and back out of a bad situation, the cage flexes and you blow reverse.
I will definitely pull one apart to see how it works before going to all the work of mounting it. |
Unrelated, but another popular option for adding reverse, is to use an engine starter and flywheel gear to engage the jackshaft. When I get to that point, I might consider it as well, but let us all know what you come up with, as I would like to keep things as mechanical as possible.
