Nothing wierd about that if you don't have the right size!!!You have to know what size diameter the jackshaft is to know what to order-I'm sure this info is provided as a description when ordering the sprocket . What's the axle/gearbox sprocket chain size? It has to match the jackshaft sprocket chain size.
There are numerous sprocket gear ratio charts on the internet (put in gear ratio chart) to find out what your final gear ratio will be.
