Default How to get smoother off-idle acceleration

So I bought my kids a hammerhead torpedo. It has a 6.5hp 208cc engine with a centrifugal clutch.

Have quite a few ideas and questions but will just focus on one thing at a time.

Acceleration is goofy. It is hard for the kids to go from stopped to go and the point of clutch engagement seems to fast to be comfortable teaching my daughter to drive the kart.
I wondered if lighter springs in the clutch would work or if that would make it likely to end up with stalls on inclines or rough terrain.

Was wondering if there were any mods or any ideas that could help with smoother off idle clutch engagement. I mean a motor scooter with a centrifugal clutch doesn't have the same issue. What is different?
