5/8" Grade 8 is rock solid. It's actually overkill. I've got a lot of lifetime warranty spindles out there, and would have had to go bigger a long time ago if the 5/8" G8 wasn't up to snuff. I mentioned a bit more detail a few posts back:

You've got it right. However, go with 6.5" on the bolt length.
