Not sure what you consider a sudden jerk. The reverse will not engage like your car does. Since there is no sincro mesh in the unit when you shift into reverse the gears will have to mesh to engage. If your idle is too high it will slam into reverse. With everything adjusted correctly, when you move your lever to reverse you will have to lightly tap the gas to get the gears to mesh. Sometimes you will just move the lever to reverse and it will go right to reverse. It all depends on the lineup of the gears at time of shifting to reverse. Did you check the rev box to make sure it has grease in it?
