it's basically a tube for the cable housing end that allows the shift fork shaft to be pulled outwards during the shift. the inside diameter of that cap has to be larger than the shaft end PLUS the snap ring that holds the cable end in place. In caps because that's where i goofed when i fabbed one up--made it clear the shaft and forgot about the snap ring around it.
