as far as checking you charging status goes.
Using a voltmeter, test the battery with pos and neg wires disconnected, then connected with engine not running. Should be the same, or you may have a drain. just a good thing to check. Once you have your "not running" voltage, start the buggy and check it at idle and then with the rear end up on jack stands with some throttle applied. You should see around 1.5 volts or so over your not running reading. if so, it's charging.
