Default BuggyMasters Review: Baja Shifter 90 Kids Buggy

Baja has made many buggies in their time and are still in business today. One good thing about Baja is generally speaking they choose good manufacturers. This holds true for this kids buggy.

This is a pretty good looking machine. Good for kids up to say 48 inches tall or so. The build quality is pretty good. The drivers seat is adjustable. Has a rear disk brake.

What is unique about these machines is that they have a semi auto transmission. Some manufacturers use a 3-speed semi auto, some are single speed, and then there is Baja (Dazon sold/marketed the exact same machine) who went with a 2-speed semi auto. Although my daughter never really complained, the problem with the two speed is that there is no in-between gear. You've got first gear with a top speed of about 8 mph, and then 2nd gear with a top speed of about 25 mph. The effect of this is that the shift from first to second is a healthy jump down in RPM's and if you try to start off in second all the time, I can't see the clutch holding up very long. Kids that seem to like riding in first gear all the time will be holding it wide open. I'm not sure how well the engine will hold up to that.

If you want a shifter style buggy, I'd look for one with the 3 speed semi auto. I certainly woud have rated this machine higher if it was a 3 speed version.

Pros: Great build quality and a great looking machine.
Cons: No middle gear

Overall BuggyMasters Rating: 6 out of 10.
