I would say check for spark, since that would eliminate the stator / CDI, but I guess you do need a starter for that.....
Speaking of starters- mine shorted out a couple months ago. The positive wire rattled loose from the motor housing, and was barely contacting a grounded surface nearby (can't remember what at the moment. Pulling the starter and testing away from the motor is pretty easy.
Should add: I have a 3206 Spiderbox, I'm guessing they are the same motor.
