The carb is large...
but the 30 mm(air) bore thru the carb is fixed . So what you really are adjusting is the gas flow thru the carb.Lets talk about the top two .
The most adjustable carb is a Mukuni but they are harder to get parts for and are expensive too.It has always been known to be a bottom end and mid range carb.
The Kehin carb is not as adjustable but flows more air because of a better venting system.It has always been known as a mid to top end carb.
Both are considered to be excellent carbs when properly jetted.
The main problem is that even though they can use the same type of jets, the hole size for say a 140 Mukuni jet is a slightly different internal size than the Kehin 140 is.The Main and pilot jet for these carbs are also precisely drilled to correct sizes.
Now if you try to put China jets in either one the hole size may not be accurate because most are just rough cut or even punched .Yes you can re-drill them if you have the correct drill bits but thats the jetting nightmare they are all slightly different.I know of at least 3 different China copies of these carbs and some work better than others .However, they cant match the precise fuel metering of the 2 above ! If you want to change youre carb to any brand 30mm you will have to change the intake manifold,air filter, jetting high and low speed ,and exhaust.Getting the 30 mm carb to work properly will take alot of jetting time and plug reading to get it perfect. But as others have said it worth it !
