Thanks for the great advice guys! I found it, underneath the flippin carb.

I feel your pain, my vulcan 1500 is the same way, except it has a hard coolant line partially covering it as well. No wonder the PO left it alone, and boy would it pop back through the intake, blew the carb off once.
