Typically you can run without the regulator as it is only a source of stable power for your aux devices such as lights, 12v charging port, horn, ect. From what I understand most stators can produce 90+ volts and the regulator reduces this amount and keeps you from constantly blowing bulbs. I am not an electrical guy by any means so if that doesn't make sense someone can correct me. Currently I am running with out my rectifier but also with out lights horn ect.
