You may be hitting a point where the engine just can't pull the hill, the tav is letting the driver open up to the max and the belt stays pinched down in. that would lock up the engine and wheels until the pulley opens with rotation and releases the belt. Next time it happens, check the pulleys and see where the belt is. if it is happening more often, either time for a new belt or brass bushing that sits between the sheaves of the driver.

This is the most likely scenario. It would be the first time I've seen and engine run rich enough to lock up without other tell tales.
