bad starting
Just bought Sonic Viper 250 and cant get the hang of starting it. When I turn it over it doesnt start straight away then it chucks petrol out off a breather pipe all over the floor.??????
Also does anyone know if I can change the exhaust pipe to something alot quieter Im going to be driving it on the road in Spain and the Police are going to stop me all the time and dont want to draw attention to the Buggy. |

What is your compression, what color is the spark, have you adjusted the valves yet???
You need to post a picture of the muffler showing the pipe coming off the head to see if it mounts like any other buggy TOM |

Do what Tom suggests and if you know how, pull out the carb and check the float. The float bowl is on the bottom and has 4 screws and a thin rubber type gasket. I was told by a vendor that sometimes the carbs ship out with a gel type substance inside that is supposed to dissolve over time. Sounds like the float is not working if the carb is overflowing. As far as the muffler...Really can't say where to get one that is silent. Best of luck.

Valve Adjustment:
Remove the left crankcase cover (page 8-3). Rotate the drive pulley counterclockwise and align the "T" mark on the camshaft with the index mark on the cylinder head cover to bring the piston to TDC Dead Center) on the compression stroke. Loosen the valve adjuster lock bolts, which are located on the left side of the cylinder head. Move the intake and exhaust adjusters outward (away from each other fully until resistance is felt. Then move them inward (toward each other) one graduation. Tighten the lock bolts. NOTE • One graduation on the adjusters equals 0.10 mm (0.004 in), which is the specified value clearance. Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal. |
