Carbide 7150 Transmisson TO Hammerhead Transmission Conversion
Well i got a 150cc Hammerhead transmission coming so i will be doing a swap out of the the Carbide 7150 Transmission to Hammerhead. i will be mating the transmission to the rest of the carbide engine. So i will probably will need help on what all i need to do. Should be getting it tomorrow sometime.Anyone know of any Video's on YouTube or anywhere else i can check out thanx.

Don't understand what your doing. The 7150 uses the internal reverse transmission. It is part of the engine case. All you can change are the internal gearing. The 7150 uses the Hammerhead engine so all parts are the same in either engine since there both made by same company.

in the picture i posted it's missing all the parts from the internal transmission. so i got the whole gearbox from a HH 150 and swapping out the transmission from the 7150 and putting in the HH transmission and bolting it to the rest of the 7150 engine. So are you replacing the internal gearing AND adding an external box??

I see you basically are replacing the gutted internals. How come you didn't order from ASW, there cheaper and it's the same engine since HH makes it.

I'm starting to get a little confused about this issue SFORCE could you please post some more pics?

Sure here is a pic of the Carbide and HH transmission. the first picture is of the Carbide without the transmission. the 2nd is of the HH with The Transmission and Cvt. i'm going to take the HH transmission and cvt and bolt it on to the Carbide engine with the flywheel etc.

That's what i thought when i seen the HH Transmission i got from you.

Those are 2 different engines. The first gen internal reverse HH transmissions are different then the second gen HH transmissions. The HH second gen trans with internal reverse is just like the Carbide trans used today. If you look under the CVT cover of the Carbide it will say Hammerhead in raised letters. The first Gen was a bolt on internal reverse the second gen was incorporated into the engine case. I don't see how you will make the first gen work in the second gen.

all that should matter is in the crankcase area where they split. . from there back will be different yes. if you could post a picture of above and underneath your carbide engine.

Other things to consider are how the engines mount, will you need to fabricate and will the sprocket line up with the axle sprocket. Also I don't remember if the 1st gen used 1 or 2 shift cables, but from the looks of the pictures the cable/cables route differently.

Those 2 engines are like apples, and oranges! I'm familiar with what Tom is talking about, we had the same issue with my buddy's carbide trans, we where told the HH trans. gears would work, but we had to make sure we got the "right" set! we ended up finding as set of original carbide gears!

Yeah it's not going to work oh well guess i'll start saving up the 350.00 to do it right spend 110.00 on this and went down the drain and tore the engine down for nothing.

unfortunate those other partswon't do me no good either. were the timing chain goes on the carbide will not fit on the HH 150cc transmission there cast different. in pic 1 and 2 of the carbide there is a plate that come's off to hook up the timing etc. in pic 3 of the HH 150cc transmission dose not have this.

The old style HH engines used a different crank shaft as the new style engine. Your ASW buggy uses the new style case with a different crankshaft. I'm thinking the HH engine you have was out of the GT200 which was different then the engine uses in the GT150 buggy.

Sorry to here that SFORCE! keep trying & everybody will keep helping!

The timing chain should still work since both engines use the same chain, cylinder, head ect. The main difference is the back half of case and crank used. The ASW/ new HH engine uses the internal reverse, the older HH engines using the scooter GY6 had an external reverse except for the GT200 which used a bolt on internal reverse. The new HH?ASW cases are also deeper on the CVT side which is where the crank change comes in. The only differences in the new style and old style cranks is (new compared to old) smaller bearing on left side however the shaft diameter is the same so bearings can be swapped, the beveled boss used on old style cranks for the kickstart gear has been cut back 1/2" removing taper. Due to cutting taper back the variator will set 1/2" further back then old style GY6 and requires a longer spline on tip of crank. So I see no way to combine an old style with new style case. Also even if this could be done chances are 99% that the rear sprockets would not line up then there is always the problem of rear mount lining up. Since you got the buggy for nothing the $350 for correct transmission parts is not bad at all for you will have a 2000.00 buggy (new) that only cost you 350.00. Still a hell of a deal. Last but not least the new style engines have a much better gearing in the transmission for as compared to an older stock GY6 with top speed 32mph, these will just about reach 40mph. So with the exception of not being able to use the stroked crank's out there, the engine is a better engine out of the box. Even if you have to re ring the engine you will come out much cheaper to just order the parts and fix the current engine.

Yeah i guess your right i'll just save up the 350.00 to do it right. I thought paying the 110.00 seam littler cheaper that's what i get trying to save money.

There are several different variants of this motor and only 2 are in use today. Many have not been manufactured in several years and parts are near if not impossible to find. Many are new to this and think that all GY6 engines are the same. If you can e-mail all your part numbers that are needed to me I can see if I can do it any cheaper.

What would be good to use to clean the engine case up with. also is there any special gasket kit i need to get or can i use perm gray gasket stuff? will put her back together and wait on the parts when i can order them.

If you have split the case halves you will need the gasket. The right case could be done without gasket but I would use Right Stuff by Permatex. Everything else you can use the gray Permatex. Now if you still have the old gasket on case and it is broken you can use the gray to repair the seal. To clean case just soak in ant degreaser or diesel fuel. If using the purple stuff keep in mind that it will discolor and etch the aluminum if soaked for too long.

Well hopefully you've had a chance to cool down since last night. I'd take the valve cover off and see if the cam chain is in a bind, it happened to me the first time I put mine back together!

The first time is always a learning experience. Count your blessings that the problem is noticed before running the engine. All you have to do now is find the problem and correct it. Refer to the shop manual it's your best friend.
