Default My new Ride

Picked up the Joyner today. It's a 2009 250, barely used and all stock. Still has the nipples on the sides of the origional tires.
Got one heck of a deal on it too!

Congrat's on the purchase and great deal-"Beautiful buggy" I'm always amused by the statement about nipples still on the tires though as I have 5yr.old+ tires that have been run through everything and still have the nipples on them!!

Time to let the mods begin. 15-19g sliders, white or red spring, 32mm pumper carb, robertson torque tube header, big gun muffler, Uni and jets (38-40 pilot and 130-135 main) will wake that puppy up quite a bit. Also on mine I upgraded the petcock to a 3/8" ball valve and 1/4" nipple and flipped the tank and moved it as far forward as possible for better flow with 1/4" fuel lines. Be careful with it in stock form as mine was running real lean in stock form the few times I ran it before starting the mods

Thanks guys. I picked this up for 2000, so I feel like I got a pretty good deal on it. It's compleatly stock. I took it out for a spin when I got it home. It did ok in the snow and slop but the tires really aren't helping it out in the traction bepartment. Granted the conditions were really bad.
She's HEAVY compared to 4 wheelers, but I like that. It feels like a really solid trail runner. I crawled over a big tree that fell over the trail and it walked right over it, I was impressed it didn't even bottom out. The suspension was very nice. The front shocks are way to stiff in my poinion. Does anyone know if you can soften them up if you let some of the air out of the front shocks?
The transmission seams hard to get into gear, I'm going to pop the case tonight and see if I can dial in the linkage a little better.
Soooo. I think I need the uni intake and a re-jet of the carb for sure. From the sound of the pipe I think the stock setup will be fine as far as the exahaust goes.

Any suggestions on tires? Going to need a new set all the way around. I was thinkins something like holeshots on the back?

Nice looking ride. The front shocks are adjustable at the bottom, they have a step notch adjustment. If you are talking about your shifter being stiff, most I've seen are that way. As for tires, it depends on what type of riding you want to do. Holeshots are a good trail running tire. If you want to hill climb or go mudding, you need something a little more agressive. If you want to go up in tire size, it depends on your mods. Going to a lighter roller or slider and stiffer main spring helps alot. I wanted good traction so I run 23x10x10 ITP Muddlites on the rear and 22x8x10 Kenda front max on the front to eliminate front end push in tight turns under power and have good steering control. I'm running 17grm sliders and white main spring. Anything above a 23" tire will require some serious engine mods or gear reduction to turn the larger tires.

Nice FIND! If those tires have nubs it has hardly been driven. The stock tires wear fast. On mine i put new take offs from a Polaris scrambler. 23-10-10 front and 22-10-10 rear Titan 489's. Bought them for $100.00 and they work great. A lot of quad guys change tires when new and they are great for buggies. Most sport quads run 21 to 23 fronts on 10" wheels.

Congrats on your new Joyner.

I just went to 23x8x10 Kenda KlawXC on the front of mine and 23x10x10 Bearclaws on the back.

I feel ya I usually search every day and haven't in a week. Had I seen that one I would have been making a roadtrip. You just don't find '09's for $1999 this is only the 2nd one I've ever seen that cheap.

Brother any Joyner under 3 is a deal. Kid once you have one and see just how well they are built...... This frame alone is worth 1000 in my mind. You go to the buggy bash Kid an you'll be good and sold. Just wait till me a JWIK come swinging through them whoops with 70hp just screaming.

Chuck's right on here. I took a Hammerhead to the bash last year and they are ok on the trails but the whoops will beat you like a big bass drum.

i will agree with you there. i've had mine on some whoops and it doesn't do very well. i really can't complain other than that. the HH has been a good buggy for me. it's like when you get a dog "for the kids"......you end up getting attached to it anyway...

This is true, it just ain't built for that kind of riding. The Hammerhead excels on the hills and through tight trails, but if you're going fast, you need flat ground.

that's where i'm 50/50 guys. i'm impressed with the climbing and trail ability of my hammerhead but until i drive a joyner, i have no comparison. i really don't care about going fast. i'm more interested in climbing and trail riding but i have always liked the joyners (looks & suspension set-up). if i were going to buy something for speed it would be a honda pilot or red line but i just don't do that kind of riding. i'm still keeping my eyes out for a joyner and my 15 yr. old may end up with my hammerhead if i find a deal but i'm in no hurry.

I dont care about speed either. I like things to be quik. The Joyner is under powered in my openion but with the low gear it really dont matter. But it aint just whoops. I've bottomed the hh out many times on a trail. Coming off a rock. Even in the water. The Joyner only needs one thing to be better than the hh across the board, thats better stearing. The stearing on the hh is what makes it a killer in the trails not the size. Unless they are super tight trails. In that case the hh is the one to beat. Thats not saying the hh aint dang good. But if your like me and think of more power down the road, the joyner is the man. This chasis could easaly be made to hold 1000cc safly. Thats why I say the frame is worth a G

i hear ya chuck. nothing worse than that sudden jolt when you bottom out on the trails. i'm still drawing some ideas on paper for a better set-up for the front of my hh like you did. if i come up withn a winner, i just might keep the hh and build my monster.

That's exactly where Joyner screwed up, putting a 250 in that chassis. It's begging for a bigger powerplant. If it had a motor/trans combo like that 400 Yamabuggy, it could be the perfect mini-buggy.

Yep that is the area Joyner lacks business sense. Slap a cfmoto 500 in the sv250 and you got one hot commodity.

Yea the hh is suited well for a modded 250. But after watching JWIK at the bash I knew no amount of money would make me happy with the power plant. It's not under powered for normal riding. But for a 1 gearguy who like quik, it just aint gonna work.

Kid just buy some struts from ebay.

Thanks guys. I've got some seat time in it since I got it home. Very nice suspension set up! I agree with everyone else that the powerplant is a little soft. I ride tight trails around here so I think I can get by with the engine. If I can get it to breath right and jet the carb I sould be in good shape. I'm thinking a set of the 16oz sliders would be a good idea. And some new tires, and some adjustable shocks...... I can see this might get expensive!

Look at the 17g slider weights with the red Malossi spring. This setup should keep your top end and increase your pickup.

Also making the engine breath. A port and polished head with a Harley House cam will really wake it up.

Yes it is a cam for the 250 which was developed by the owner of Harley House in Washington State. There are 2 grinds available a smal grind which is good for climbing and all around driving and the large grind for more mid range and top speed. These cams are available with my ported and polished head.I had done the R&D on the large grind which I currently run in my coolster challenger. The large cam requires work to the head. but is an awsome cam as is the small grind. Heavier springs are a deffinate on the large but highly advisable on the small as well. In fact with any performance cam for the 250 I recomend the springs. You can give me a call for more details 662-301-1563
