Default Razor Vision Reverse Box (w/ Pictures!)

Hey guys!

Picked up another kart last weekend. Razor Vision 150cc.

The kart needs work. Burning oil bad. The guy told me it had sat for 3 years, so probably needs a top end rebuild - but it ran and I was able to test drive it around a little.

I've started tearing it down and have found that the cables that go to the reverse box were taken off. after further investigation, I see that when it moves, the entire reverse box rotates with the output shaft. I don't think thats how it's supposed to work. The problem, was the guy handed me a box of nuts, bolts, cables, levers, etc... so I really have no idea how this thing is supposed to work. I'm considering getting an entire new reverse assembly, but before I do that, I'd like to spend at least a little time researching how this is supposed to work and see if it is recoverable.

If anyone has some suggestions, I'd appriciate it. Attached are pictures of what I've got. It would also be EXTREMELY helpful if any of you have the same or similar reverse assemblies, to post pictures of your assemblies so that I can compare them.

PS. the way it is presented in the pictures is how I guessed it was supposed to go in, it could be completely wrong...

Go to Buggy Depot in the Tech Center. They have a link on how reverse works if you look on the attachment.

Thanks for the link. It does explain well, except for the last picture doesn't load

Does anyone have any pictures of the installation? I assume the entire assembly shouldn't be allowed to spin, just the part that the sproket bolts to? If thats true, I'm not sure how it secures itself. There is a fork that came in the pile of parts, and if I had to guess, somehow that bolts to something to secure the reverse box? Just not sure where that should bolt to.

Been searching online for closeup pictures of the back side of gokarts, but everytime I find one with the same reverse box that mine has, I can't seem to see everything I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Go back to the Buggy Depot Tech Center and look at the installation directions for the reverse assembly: /buggy-tech-center/read/150cc/0/17/reverse-kit-install-instructions-silvergrey-kit.html

Thanks a ton for this information. Looks exactly like what I needed. I'll try to put it back together tonight and see how it goes. The document with each piece listed where it goes is the best!

Ok, I think I've got it back together now (see pic). One of the documents you posted suggested using a bunch of washers on the part where the fork looking thing attaches to the engine, so I still need to run by Ace and pick up a massive amount of washers.

Any suggestions on how to repair the frayed end of the reverse cable?

Yeah, thanks to Tom I was able (after months of searching) to find the shaft for my SUNL. Got it installed and took it out and had a blast with it. I traded an old dirt bike (that was given to me by a lady who was going to junk it) for that Razor gokart on Craigslist. Now thats my new project since the SUNL is working.

My dad has two older gokarts, a Murray and a red Yerf Dog. He doesn't like it how every time I came over to ride them, I either had to quit because it was getting dark outside, or because I broke them. I usually was the one who ended up fixing them though, but it's nice now that I have my own I can be as hard on them as I want and not worry about hearing him whine about how i tear up his karts... now I just hear him whine about tearing up his yard

I enjoy working on these things. I've been into gokarts since I was in elementry school, but now that I'm a "grown up" and have a house with a garage, I can actually get them and work on them!

PS. Thanks for this forum. The information found here is great!

metalstudman1,

Do you still have the gearbox housing? If you do and daniel doesn't want it, I might be interested. The gearbox on my kart is worn on one side of the stationary housing and the seal is shot. The gears and bearings look good. It looks similar to the gearbox in uthe54's pictures, but not exactly the same.
