Any ideas on converting a 4x4 400 yamaha into a buggy

I have been trying to trade this four wheeler for a buggy
but haven't had that much luck. So I'm thinking about builing
a buggy out of it. The only thing is it's shaft driven and the
rear Axel would be to narrow for me as it's got to be two
seater. So just in case someone close to Oklahoma has atleast
a 250cc or parts I thank you in advance. Oh and all suggestions
will and are appreciated thank

And also I want to keep it 4x4 cause I like trails and climbing
more than blasting speed.

Can you get pics of the 400 Yamaha 4-wheeler?close-ups of the drive train. I've looked at lots of ATV's with the same type of project in mind and may have a few ideas.

without seeing it, what about sideways mounting the engine and have a sprocket made to fit onto the assembly where the shaft system connects, instead of the shaft ? There is a 750 Virago buggy on a different forum that did this and had pretty good luck with it. Having a sprocket made should be about 75 bucks. just an idea, snoopy

I too wondered about this. I have recently looked to convert a dunebuggy to 4 wheel drive. With a Polaris Sportsman 600. What scared me the most was the cutting of a frame so that we could put a driveline down the middle of it. The shock and front end redesign was a little worrysome also. As far as the axel width, we thought we would try using some universal wheel spaces that we saw on a jeep. They were 6 inches thick so the guy could put 44 inch tires on it, also they were aluminum so they did not weight that much.

I have given up on my 4-wheel drive buggy for now, but post picture as you go, I would love to see your work.
