Are you wanting to replace the gears? The gearbox is part of the engine case.

Oh, because it is basically a scooter engine I thought the forward and reverse gearbox was a bolt on on the GY6. I didn't realize they were as one.

now i'm a little confused here. Scooter motors don't have reverse . There is a seperate reverse box that goes on the output/axle shaft of scooter motors which is used in buggies and there is a gy6 with a intrigal reverse for 4 wheeler application. Which is it?? your gonna have to give better info if you want acurate responses

Ok... let's see if I can help clear things up. The reverse gear box on a buggy is integrated. It can't be removed. It can be opened so you can work on it... like I have recently done. Why would you want to remove the reverse box anyway?

The older buggies with the GY6 had external reverse which was added since scooters where the GY6 originated did not have reverse. In about 2008 the internal reverse GY6 was born. We need to know if you have the internal or external reverse. The external reverse will hang on the output shaft held on with a single nut I believe 7/8" in size. If not sure what you have post a pic of your unit and we sure can put you on the right path.
