Default Carter Talon 150

This is one of the earlier ones. I believe a 2006, maybe a 2005. These are actually great machines. Very well built and the engines are typically very strong. This one is no exception however it does have the short internal gears and smaller 19 inch tires on it. Although these features are great for trail type riding, with a top speed of only 30 mph, it holds it back on the flat track. BigE told me that at one time the Carters and Hammerheads were coming out of the same factory. I am pretty sure this is in that era. One way to tell this type of engine is the electrical box is configured sideways so the short side faces the rear of the buggy vs typical later configurations where the long side faces the rear. I think the fastest stock 150 machine we have had to date was a Hammerhead 150 from this year (2005-2006). Man that thing ran good.

I ran the snot out of this one on these passes and it held up beautifully taking a heck of a beating on the whoop di's. The reason you don't see such a significant difference between standing and rolling is because with the short gears, this thing gets up to top speed pretty quickly.

The vids for these are kinda repetative and not real exciting. I'll probably only to them for special situations. A talon is a pretty standard machine.

I took it off and sprayedall the ports with carb cleaner. I also took all of the jets out and ran a wire thru them. The piloit jet was clogged up and I had to work on it for a while which included boiling it in hot water to get it opened. The buggy seems like it is running real rich at 1/4 throttle and then it will run until it starts popping. It will run 33 mph but it is cutting off and on at this speed and seems to be studdering.

The pilot jet was my concern. Pilot jets take a very very fine wire. If you alter the bore on it even slightly it can have pretty hard effects such as bad idle and rich running at under other conditions. Do you feel like you have have inadvertantly opened it up more than it should be?

I dont think I did, I used a peice of wire off of a wire brush to run thru it. Once the boiling water heated it up enough it went through it easy as the crud came out. However it will not try to idle at all. You have to keep the throttle open about 1/4 to make it stay running.

It is running well now. I need a stock air filter number or something. The air box does not have anything in it. Some dummy took the air filter out and it is missing. Does any one know what air filter goes in it and what holds it in?

What type filter should it have? It can either be a square filter which slips into a track or it can be a round filter. Let me know the specifics and I should have one in stock.
