My New Yerf 3206
Well, I bought it... $500 and I am the 3rd owner. The only mods I know that have been done are: new HD front end suspension and air filter. This is my first buggy and I appreciate all the info on this site. I have attached some pics of it below. I would love to get your comments, and suggestions, especially if you see anything odd or troubling in the pics. I have already ordered a few items to get it looking better (The buggy is my kids' Christmas gift). I have on order: new roll cage foam and covers, new muffler, new rubber boots for steering, new decals, etc. I drove it around a little today at lunch... some questions and observations: 1. it runs fine while driving, but will not stay running at idle... almost as if the idle rpms are a little too low. Seems to idle fine at first and then slowly dies as if being choked or idle speed lowers til it dies. 2. wow, the turning radius is pretty bad!... I guess I will get used to planning my turns (I mean my kids' turns) well in advance! 3. When I clean and detail it before Christmas gets here, I will also check all the bolts for tightness, what other checks would you buggy veterans recommend? Lube anything? Fluids? anything I should just go ahead and change out? any and all advice is appreciated!

Nice -- good price! You can improve the turning radius by adding a couple more grooves to the rack, either buggymaster, metalstudman or ckau have pictures in one of their build threads showing what to do. You can probably save a couple dollars by cancelling the order for roll bar foam and pick some pipe insulation up at your local home center. Same stuff. drain and replace the oil since you have no idea how long it's been since last done. Just good insurance. I'd look over ALL the welds at the frame tubing junctions to make sure there are no cracks. the one above the rear shock is a prime candidate. Have fun!

1. Those are third generation spindles with the even a-arms, but they are the original OEM spindles. Eventually they fail and you will need to rebuild them or send them to Buggy Depot for repair.
2. The exhaust and muffler can be sanded down and repainted with barbeque paint. Don't bother with the chrome pieces since they can cause annoying vibrations. 3. The bottom guard and chain guard easily add 10 lbs to the rear and can cause a lot of rattle. If you do not have small children that will stick their fingers into the sprockets, get rid of them. 4. The stock fuel tank does not have a shutoff. Get one like this and replace the tank barb with the petcock. Last edited by GX150; 11-21-2011 at 04:08 PM. |

Good score! From the pics it appears to be clean and in decent shape.
It has the re-inforced a-arms and HD ball joints so thats good news. I always had the same idle problem with the original stock carburator too . Didn't want to idle for any length of time. It would load up and start to die. blip the throttle to clear it out and it would do fine. It didn't like sitting still. do go over the frame to look for stress cracks, especialy in the area X-bird pointed out and also on the front where the front spiderbox bolts to the top rail and on the rear swingarm where the rear motor mount chain tensioner bracket is welded on. your kid's gonna flip and your gonna be a hero. Hope you can stay out of the buggy long enough for the kids to have a turn! I have the sneeky feeling your going to get hooked on this buggy! |

Roll bar padding and pipe insulation are not the same. Roll bar padding is made from a flame retardant material and has a offset hole to allow the bulk of the padding to face the operator. There is even some hi tech padding that absorbs impact progressively to prevent injury.
I spent seven years as a product engineer at Moroso. Five years more before that building drag chassis.

Awesome looking Spiderbox You're now officially "Super Dad" (or Santa!). IMO Getting the kid's to understand the wide turning radius is a good thing at first, when they develope good driving skills and know how the buggy is going to re-act- then notch the rack. With a tighter turning radius comes the ease of roll-over. So you probably should be hunting down a 2nd buggy and space to store them

Mine also wouldn't idle when I got it, did you adjust the idle screw? If that doesn't work, it didn't on mine adjust the valves it's easy and cheap to do. All you need is a 6 dollar tool. Look up how to do it. Did you order your knew muffler yet? If you did I'll buy your old one. Mines really bad doubt yours is worst. Pm me if you will sell it.

Your upper and lower a-arms are the heavy duty BD models as well the ball joints hanging off them. The black boxed structure that holds the wheel is called the spindle.
You can buy new spindles from BD or send yours in to be upgraded: BDX LIFETIME 3rd Gen Spindles for Yerf Dog GX150 *SALE* $80/pr Spindle Repair & Reinforcement Service - 3rd Generation (Pair) $40/pr |

I think I fixed the dying at idle problem... I just turned the idle screw (is that what it's called?) right at the throttle area, now it idles a little faster, but not quite so fast that it starts to creep forward. I adjusted it too much at first and it would creep forward on its own.

so far my buggy is running good... but the battery seems kinda weak. The guy I bought it from had a new one installed right before I bought it. Is there a recommended upgrade battery? The stock one seems like a toy, lol. If the engine turns over more than just a few times before starting, it drains the battery pretty quick.
