Yerf dog rear axle question
I was wondering if anyone has ever used a 1 inch diameter live axle on a yerf dog spiderbox? if so what should the over all length be? any info will help

yea . I've been using the Azusa 1" flex proof keyway axle 42" long for several years. I bent one of the Azusa's until I added more bearing supports. The azusa I have now is over 3 years old and works perfectly

Snap2 .. sort of, those are stock yerf hubs with the back half sawn off then welded to a splined machine coupler to fit the azusa axles.

I'd have the exact same pics of my yerf ... if i worked in the living room. )) I've got a couple brake discs and a cable-activated caliper, thinking about a new axle, (stock one has a slight bend from snagging too many trees) new shocks and more travel at the rear. I take it Azusa is a good quality brand?

But now I find the next weak link. I gotta find some decent sprocket hubs This is a sprocket hub with the key sheared down the length. the hubs get beat out along the keyway then become loose and floppy I have to replace sprocket hubs every season. |

What about adding a locking collar to prevent splitting?

Since my divource I can work on anything anytime I want in my livingroom, but I replaced my carpet with tile. Easier to clean up oil from before company comes over.

good question Snap, I don't remember! I belive the yerf stock wheel base is 42" if memory is correct . I use 9" wide rear wheels with a 6/3 offset so my wheelbase is somewhere around 52". I do remember wanting to stay under the maximum 54" wide wheel base allowed in state parks at that time.
Pete, I had considered your suggestion before but I doubt a locking collor would tighten the hub base enough. there"s no room to compress unless I split the hub center. What I want/need is something like this. I can find them with the 1" center but the total hub sizes are always too large to fit the 31 tooth yerf sprockets. I have bought several different variations, taperd sleaves, etc hoping to find one that can be modified but no luck yet. I did find one with the right dims. but after recieving the hub it was so cheezy and poorly cast I didn't bother trying it. I probably should start another post on this subject as I don't want to stray from Snap's original questions. I hear ya Tom! Nothing better than good pratical solutions! |

Tell me more about the splined machine coupler you used behind the hubs. I have been looking at the azusa axle but cant find any that are splined. Only threaded or clips I was thinking of using 4 on 4 hubs and drill the rims to match or maybe use a 4 on 4 to 4/110 adapter. What do you think?

http://www.mfgsupply.com/53-681.html You'd use the snap ring type axle- Correct me if I'm wrong ckau- his wheel hub adaptor is keyed not splined The pic's is a spare wheel hub for the "different type of buggy" & universal disk brake/sprocket holder made from billet aluminum and are exceptionally strong. Forgot I had these in the boneyard- 1" axle , I think it's 40-41"" hub to hub.

How well do the snap rings hold up? Do I need to use a locking collar? What if I threaded the end of the axle oh say 1 1/2 inches then used a locking nut and a locking collar behind the hub? I dont know............ just thinking out loud
