Default Too much for a 30 series convertor?

Doing some engine shopping. my brother's 9hp robin, while set-up for an electric start, doesn't have the starter itself and I can't find one anywhere. Trying to keep re-powering the yerf reasonable and am looking for an electric start engine (wife will be more into riding with it). Came across the lifan below, is 13hp too much for a 30 series TC???

Also looking at a lifan 9hp and another 9 hp by Liquid something Technologies aka china junk. Both in the 300 range with electric start. How well regarded are the Lifans and is there much in the way of repair parts available? Pistons, rods, sleeves etc,???

The problem you may have is that I think that engine has the 1" shaft on it. They are some torque monsters too so my guess is that it would eat up that converter.

The other bad thing about those is the lower operating RPM. Will force you to re-gear which, while the engine would love that, the converter would not.

I have seen plenty of 8-9hp engines with electric start on a 30 series though.

Starter and ring gear pricing has killed the subaru idea. i'd have to throw another 400+ at it plus a new driven. If anyone is interested, it's a 9hp ex-27 with the 15/40 charging coil and a 30 series driver. He put it on his Manco but felt it was too much, so it probably has 1/2 hour of run time since new. pm me for price.

He's looking to just break even on it, $375 plus shipping--includes the 30 series driver.

I'm leaning heavily towards the Lifan 9hp with electric start through HD, $331 with shipping. I'm expecting a coil in the mail for the briggs 3hp, if that "cures" its intermittent no spark issue and it proves easy to start and reliable, i may put that on the mini shark with a centrifugal clutch and hold onto my tec until she's ready for that level of hp. It'll save me from having to buy another TC and jackshaft right off the bat. i'm trying to finish hers by February without knocking mine out of action.

You can get the TAV 30 with a 1" bore replacement driver.
