Default External Reverse on GY6

I cannot determine how much lubricant to put in the reverse mechanism. It appears to work adequately while on jackstands; there is a clunk when changing from forward to reverse, but it accelerates fine in both directions. No fluid comes out the drain hole, and I cannot detect any by probing in the fill hole.

I also can't see how to adjust the drive chain. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to attach the pictures of the above items from my computer to this posting; the paper clip icon does nothing, and the 'insert image' icon asks for a http link.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit: I added the pictures. Is this lube acceptable for the reverse unit?

Chain adjustment is done by tightening that bolt shown in the last pic next to the top of the oil bottle.

As far as lube goes, you want grease, not gear oil. The seal that seals the two halves will let gear oil out in a hurry. To properly grease it, you need to remove the unit and take it apart. It's a pretty simple deal--just sloppy.

Default Adjustments and Maintenance Done

Thank you gentlemen for all your help. I was able to disassemble the reverse unit and re-grease it without messing anything up. Trial and error let me get the chain adjusted [and lubed now], seats installed with cleaned and lubed adjustment rails, the spaghetti mess of seat belts/harnesses installed and operational. I still need a new emergency/parking brake cable, a battery hold down strap, and the two accordian type covers for the steering arms.

Tomorrow it'll come off the jackstands and we'll see if it performs as well on the ground as it does in the air.

Thank you again.
