Converting ATV 500 into side by side ??
Hey guys, newbie here with an issue. I purchased a 2004 arctic cat 500 automatic for a couple hundred bucks that was wrecked. The issue that I am having a problem with is the fuel delivery. The ATV was a gravity feed, I cannot mount my fuel tank on top of the engine due to the fact that the engine will be mounted in front like a car. (I am having a custom length drive shaft built for it.) I need an effective way to deliver the proper amount of fuel. Any recommendations on what type of fuel pump???
Thanks, Rick |

my scag runs a kawasaki 750 with a below-engine tank. Uses a little pump, you could probably source one through a local lawnmower service shop. Its on the bottom left of the engine in the picture.

Just a question- does the UTV have a rear rack? Couldn't you mount the tank there? fuel line is cheap!!

It's a wrecked 4 wheeler that i am chopping up and making a 4 wheel drive side by side. The fuel tank will be close to being above the engine but it's going to be 5 to 6 feet away and I'm not running a fuel line across the top of the roof and down the viewing area.

I am not sure if a vaccume fuel pump from a snowmobile would work on a 4 cycle engine, but if they do then they are cheap and extremely reliable.

An electric fuel pump would be the way to go. An inexpensive one is called a facet fuel pump, used lots of times on VW buggies and such. The pressure output is 3-4 psi normally which shouldn't overpower the float/needle if that's the carb set-up.

I'm not sure the best way to go would be.....
If I used a vacuum pump would I have to worry about getting the fuel to the engine if it was above the tank? Going up hill. |
