CVT- cover on the left/drivers side. remove (be careful with the gasket-you'll be reusing it) and inspect the belt- if belt looks okay then with an impact wrench remove the variator(pulley at the front) with the nut removed put your fingers behind the variator and slide the unit off the shaft holding the pulley halves together. Now inspect the rollers/sliders for flat spots, unusual wear, look at the ramps for unusual wear. This should be the limit of your issues!!! If not let us know and we'll get you in deeper!!!!

Ok....Took the cover off...pieces of belt everywhere...lol. Gasket dried and shredded too...Didn't take the variator off....If You were going to totally rebuild it whilee opened up ...what would you replace and what would you upgrade ?

Depends on what isn't to your liking performance wise. What type of terrain? I know your area has hills. Does it have the low end torque you need for climbing hills? does it up shift fast enough?, down shift fast enough? All these things can be altered with different rollers/sliders & clutch spring changes. How much do you want to spend? CVT mod's are some of the cheapest things you can do by the way!!! I've never had an issue with stock belts, so the Kevlar ones weren't even considered (I've never broken a belt after 3+ years of use in multiple buggies)
Go online and look up "GY6 variator & clutch up grades" this will give you an idea of what you might need and want to spend. |

You'll need to read one of the rollers to see what size is in it now to know which way to go. More topend = heavier rollers/sliders

Wow , what a diffrence...That old belt must have been shredded and wrapped around something pretty badly. Performance is much better...Went with 3 10 g and 3 14g...Lost some of the pulling power ,speed just about doubled....Thinking on going with 6 10's.
Thanks for the help/advice, Chuck |

be sure and take that rubber boot off the breather vent of the cvt cover and replace it with a scotch brite pad or something to allow more air flow for cooling.
