Default Shredder II build complete!

I built my Shredder II last year then spent the summer doing some trial runs and refining the buggy (plans are by ubuilditplans.com). Tore it down over this winter and had it sand blasted/powder coated, then back together. SO she is all done now and quite honestly is even better than I originally thought it would be! Put a factory new Honda GX670 with the governor tweaked for an extra 500 rpm. Probably about 26hp as she sits and unbelievable torque! Pretty much stuck with the plans other than the side body panels, larger fuel capacity, mud flaps on all 4 wheels and some add ons like GPS and such. I don't remember how many hours I spent on it but the better part of every weekend for about 5 months. BTW, if you build her go with the recommended suspension, worth every cent! I didnt keep track because I knew it would make me sick if I knew the total. I would guess $5k or so, probably more!

I never weighed it, but as per the plans about 550lbs I think, mine is probably 600?? I need to get some scales and find out!

Very nice build, did you find anything off just a little bit on the plans for the front end ?
I love the plans that he puts out for that buggy. Some of the most detailed. Just really don't know how he could make them better. Love the build, great job.
Anyone reading this, keep in mind if you use these plans and an ATV engine, you will need another jack shaft to get power from the drive sprocket to the rear wheels. Not a problem but it already uses a jack shaft when an industrial engine is used. Thanks for posting ! Snoopy

Sorry for the very delayed response. Stock max rpm is 3800 i believe. I re-sprung my governor for 4200rpm. This engine is designed to run at 3800rpm for thousands of hours so I'm guessing I will be in a retirement home before it needs anything!

NO PROBLEMS! This thing is a beast, the design is excellent! I put sprocket guards on it as well as a shroud around the clutch for stream crossings, otherwise perfect as per plans.

Sweet buggy. I had thought about buying one of his plans for the shredder single seater. Hard to believe 5k went into it. I can't imagine paying out that amount, I guess when you look at it tallied up. Its amazing using a motorcycle engine and getting that much power from it.

This doesn't use a motorcycle engine.

It sounds like a lot of money but that is about the cheapest you can do it. The steel & aluminum alone is almost $1k! The engine, suspension, seats, wiring, battery, headlights, steering wheel, various adapters, wheels, hardware and five million other things will put you near at least $5k. Then if you want to powdercoat it and some other optional things it will be even more. Not a cheap build, BUT you get what you pay for in the end!!

Hmm...well I don't have 5k to sink into a buggy. But I'll do my best to keep it low and still have fun.
