look closely at the wiring harness that comes out of the motor it's self. There's normally a black wire that is used as a shut off. though it could be any color, depending on what the chinese felt like using that day.
This wire simply grounds/shorts out out the ignition to turn the motor off. This wire gets connected to a momentary contact push button. Connect this wire to one side of the button, connect another wire on to the motor case and run it to the other side of the button. If the motor is a pull start then there's usually only that one wire coming out of the shroud. if it's electric start then there's 3 or 4 wires, depending on the particular version of your motor. These wires connect to a rectifier to keep the battery charged and power accessories and you'll need the wiring schematic to determine which is the ground /shutoff wire. It's easy enough to test. start the motor, touch the wire to the case. if the motor stops? that's it!
Trace the wires connected to the button. One should go to a ground somewhere on the chassis or the motor case and the other should lead back to the motor to connect to the ground /shut off wire on the motor.
