dont know if.i need to use a torque converter or not
Okay so I have this go-kart with a brand new predator 212cc engine....I don't know if I can just use a straight up "heavy duty" centrifugal clutch or if I will need to buy a torque converter....let the discussion begin

if its like a small go cart it would be fine with just the clutch, but if its like the buggies like you see mostly on here it will def. need the torque converter because it weighs so much more. it takes a lot of torque to get them rolling. send us some pics of your cart so we can be of more help. zman

without looking any further I would say you probably need the torque converter. this is way to big to pull with just a clutch. This is why your clutch is prob. overheating, it is slipping like crazy to pull all this weight to start with, what with the cart prob. weighing 300 or so lbs. plus your weight also. Also Mikey if you have the same problem with someting like this you will get better results to keep it all in one forum instead of listing it in 2 forums. zman

I think the torque converter kit will come by itself and just it,, but hang around a little and see what others say. they will be able to help you more with that.

I have to agree with the TAV idea, if you buy the kit, it comes with everything you need, unless you also need a jack shaft, but the way your axle looks, it shouldn't need one, as the driven pulley will ride just behind the engine, and almost directly over the axle sprocket.
You can get away with a clutch only, if you were to go with a bigger engine, like an 11hp or bigger, but with the 212cc, you will need a TAV.

thanks Master I used to race the Yamaha 2 stroke engine go carts, but they had nothing to do with the buggies like we have here. Now you talk about fast those bad boys would nail you to the seat. it was awesome but very expensive to operate. I had 2 of those and they would light up the 10" slicks on the back on asphalt for a good burnout like it wasnt nothing. We raced them on dirt tracks around here and they created great memories I will never forget. What was fun was to let someone that had never driven one like that drive one and watch them spend more time off the track than on. LOL their eyes would be so big when they came back into the pits. PRICELESS lol

I have a good friend that is racing karts as we speak, he graduated from the flatheads to the animal class this year, he is my go kart info source atm. He told me about some of the twin 2 stroke karts, and yeah, he said they were insane fast, don't have the top speed of the 125cc shifters, but would snap your head back, no doubt. He showed me a vid of a twin 2 stroke hitting the high banks on Daytona raceway, that would be enough for me, since you need to be close to 60mph not to fall down the track, lol.

BTW, I was looking at the pic OP posted of the buggy, and I see it might have IRS. Would you know what brand the frame is? And could you snap a few more pics of the rear suspension, we are always looking for ideas to simplify and build our own indep rears. Thanks.
