did you get the nut off? one reason i always advise not to use impacts on or off is A. chewing up the threads and B.--over torquing it and flaring the contact surfaces. OOhhh, was that TWO reasons not to use one? LOL Takes five minutes, a drill, two bolts and a piece of 3/16ths or 1/4 flat stock to make a spanner tool to hold the variator and clutch and use a breaker bar and torque wrench.
so anyway if you've lost your nut, you may have to gently tap the clutch bell with a deadblow, leather or plastic hammer going all the way around and around to free it if it was whaled on with an impact gun. no hammer of that type, then use a chunk of 2x4 ...gently you don't want to bend the shaft, your just trying to shock it loose. normally, they should just slip right off. |

Hey x bird,
I did get variator off. I will try that for clutch bell. There is a lot dry graphite in the cvt. I will give it a nice cleaning and use graphite spray on the ramps. Ever try any off brand sliders?

all you need to do for the tool is to hole saw a hole in the flat stock big enough to put a 19mm socket through. Then hold it up to the variator and drill a hole on either side to match the two spanner lug holes on the variator. get bolts that will fit all the way in the lug hole, bolt them to the flat stock and you have a spanner wrench to hold the variator while you use a socket and breaker bar or torque wrench on it. add a second set of holes to match the openings in the clutch bell--also takes slightly larger bolts and you have a two in one cvt spanner.
I'm not the one to ask on the variator setups, i moved on from the 150s despite having a basement workbench full of them and CVT setups for them. Figure when i have the time i may build a couple of them out and sell them or try something weird with the sunl frame that's out in the backyard. |

I tried to make a tool for the clutch bell. Used a 1" galvanized steel pipe, drilled two hole in it, put two bolts through it and.........
Well one of the bolts bent while I was using it to stop clutch bell from spinning while I torqued the nut with a socket wrench.

I just want to replace the main torque spring LOL.
I managed to stabilize the clutch bell cover with a pry bar, but still could not loosen nut with a socket wrench. Maybe try impact again Tomorrow at friends house. I felt like I was gonna damage something torqueing that hard on it.

key to doign it my had is to have a 3/8ths or 1/2 inch breaker bar--your not going to get enough leverage witha regular length ratchet unless you cheater pipe it.

You probably right X.
I could try cheater pipe since I don't have breaker bar.

Success!
Clutch is off.... Used pipe leverage. Pads appears thick with plenty of ware left on them. Now just waiting for 1500 Main torque spring, 12 gram sliders, and cvt gasket. They should be here by end of week or Monday. Hope my first two mods make a noticeable difference. Thanks guys for help and suggestions.

Ur going to see a nice gain with those mods compared to stock. I just have to ask did u have the impact gun turning tbe correct way? Not trying to be a dick

I hope so.
Yes I did LOL. When I was using impact at the time I didn't have anything to stop clutch bell from spinning ( just channel locks ) and I didn't like that idea. Later at my house used a pry bar to stop it. I always check my direction first on impact or socket. Also I used a lil bit of pb blasted to break thread lock.

Try a strap wrench next time to hold the clutch. It works pretty good.
