Carb help please
I have a 150cc ASW carbide. After sitting a while it starts fine and goes.....
Afterrunning for a few minutes it hesitates from a dead stop then dies when I give it gas. I thought it might need the air screw adjusted, but where the air screw is suppose looks like a plug there. Already replaced fuel filter, but just wanted to tinker with it before I take carb off and clean it.

That sounds more like a valve clearance issue. Because you said it starts it problem when it warms up.

Oh boy! I have all the stuff to do so except gasket. Crap...... Family is coming Friday and I need this up and running.
I think if I remove passenger seat I can get to it.

Its an easy fix you should be able to do it with the passenger seat removed. I have multiple times on mine. I wouldn't be to worried about your valve cover gasket as they tend to last many many times of removal

Thanks MasterBates. I did it, popped my cherry.
They were less than 0.08 I set them 0.10 It was fairly easy I felt like a pro. LOL Engine does have a bit more different sound ( little more bark). Drove around for a few minute and it did well. Then I came to a stop and gunned it; it then bogged down. Gunned it a couple more times and it bogged down and died again. I could however ease it and it would go. I guess carb clean is next.

Well. I don't know about asw carbides but what was the clearance they were at before you reset them?.10 sounds a lil sloppy to me. I would suggest 0.03 on the intake and somewhere between a 0.04-.0.05 on the exhaust side. And be sure the exhaust side is tighened down GOOD because it takes the most heat slick nick

The slop will also contribute to eventually a bent valve as well

in my manual it says the tolerance is 0.08 -0.12
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/s0K-ytyjOFg/hqdefault.jpg The top and bottom valves like he is messing with is what I did. not sure how to tell the difference. I snugged them do pretty good.

If you have a sears around you, I know their feeler gauge set starts at .004, which is very close to .10 mm, and they are cheap.

okay, thanks for the correction whew......
Set both at 0.004" I did get it to stall once, but I think the valve clearance helped a bit. Thanks.

Well guys I don't know why the spot where air/fuel screw is suppose be looks like this...
But it still stalls out after quick acceleration. I can ease the gas and go like that, but when i depress it fast it stalls. Looks like I can't adjust air fuel since that is first part of power. right? Looks like carb cleaning time.

It is right below dead center of the picture.the circle cap. Take a small drill bit. Puncture it and use a booger jook or small flat tip to pry it out.inside u will find your air adjustment screw

Wow, I didn't know they still capped the pilot screws like that, everything I have worked on had them exposed already. Definitely sounds like you need a bit more fuel in there, which would be 'loosening' or screwing it out, but only make small adjustments and try it out, shouldn't take much, like 1/2 turn, maybe.

You are talking about the silver cap; right? Not big brass one....... If silver that is what I thought.
I took carb apart and cleaned everything. Initial stalling is done with yay.... However occasionally I will get a mid throttle sputter. Looks like I will remove that plug too one day. Thanks guys.

Mine would sputter at 25 mph if I held it there too. Since modding and rejetting, the sputtering has gone away.

Nick....look.lol just make sure ur at TOP DEAD CENTER on the piston. Set ur intake @3 & ur exhaust @5.after tightening them down double check the clearance with ur feeler.ur feeler should slide in with justa small hint of it dragging as you move your feeler gauge through it. If you ddon't get it right the first time.just do it again.thesevthreads are very fine on adjusting.when u have your clearances correct squirt a dab or iol on both rockers. Also note that the carb air fuel screw is located behind the small aluminum cap.pop the cap and turn the screw counter clockwise a quarter of a turn at a time until ur dialed in where you want it. I prefer to smell a lil rich instead of going lean.when u are running lean on these motors it won't be long till the. Rings are shot or worse.

Okay, done!!
It was my exhaust valve making noise. I localized sound with my stethoscope and heard it in the bottom ( exhaust valve) opened it up and too much play. Clearance was at like .008" . Must have come loose. Set it between .004 and .005. Problem solved Yay. Runs and sounds nice. Thanks!!!
