Newbie with the buggies
FIRST POST! WOOOOOOOOOOO.
So anyway... I am looking at a Tomberline Crossfire 150R on Craigslist here It looks nice, but does anyone else agree with me that it needs a nice paint job? I was wondering if anyone else has any info/tips/stories on these karts. It's the only decent thing in the area within my budget. I'm gonna take a look this Saturday, so I'm STOKED . So.... responses? |

welcome fox I just bought one like this about 3 weeks ago. I already had a regular crossfire 150. it doesn"t have reverse but other wise it is almost identical. what part of georgia are you from? I am going to sell the regular crossfire and the Helix fox cart I have.

Hi zman! I am in the Alpharetta/Johns creek area. I was seeing some Helixes in the cl ads, but they were either too far away, or had some rusted out parts that I wasn't gonna replace, especially when they were asking $750+ for the carts...
Whaddaya think about the one I listed? The person selling it is ACTUALLY a nice person! On Craigslist! It's incredible! :P So we shall see what happens with that. |

Crossfire's a good one to get. price looks to be good as long as it's a runner.

Agreed on the price, but try to haggle a little
Crossfires seem to be one of the better frames to start out with, and still tons of mods can be done. If I am not mistaken, they also come with the Howitt engine, which I understand is a better build than the rest.

my Helix cart has the Manco engine and some of the things on them will interchange, ie the cooling shrouds, intake manifolds, etc.

Yep. Crossfires have the Howhit. I was looking at a YerfDog Spiderbox (practically new, lime green) and the guy sold it before I could meet him...I'm starting to think that these Crossfires are better than the spiders! I plan on eventually replacing the suspension if it gets too rough, and I am DEFINITELY replacing the tires within the year (assuming I get this one).

Now, with me being a newbie and all, I'm a bit confused with a few common replacements people make...
When you replace the rollers, what does it do? I read "somewhere" that it helps with speed or torque; how does that work? And how would one replace a rear sprocket? Wouldn't you have to remove the rear axle to do so? |

Thanks! I feel proud because I knew that the chain changes with the sprocket!
I worked on electric scooters for a while, so I think it's time to start working with gas! hehehe |

On the 150 (which I've read)? Or do you mean repairs. Cuz I haven't seen one on mods/repairs! Two more days till I check it out!

It's just a review done on a new buggy, there are ideas posted on there about possible changes/mods, but mostly an unbiased comparison to other buggy platform highlighting the weak areas as well as the strong areas.
I don't recall seeing many repairs needed on the crossfire other than engine repairs and mods.

The crossfire is an excellent buggy with the older Howlet engine. You can build one killer engine from the Howlet. Big bore, stroker crank, cam, perf head, even a 4 valve head. The newer GY6 with internal reverse will not accept the stroked crank.
