Why wheel hubs?
Looking into upgrading front tires on my spidey (not so much of an if...more like a how and when) and I'm comparing this..
http://www.*************/18-x-950-8-K...re_p_1598.html With this: http://www.*************/18-x-950-8-K...-4_p_1498.html I know with the second link I will have to get hubs, but is there a benefit to having hubs other than the fact that a lot of larger tires need big rims that don't have a 1" bore? Once I get these it'll be YEARS till I get new tires, so that aspect doesn't really bother me. I'm just looking to get SOMETHING that's better than the dainty, little, dry-rotting doughnuts YD has provided me with.

The first one will not work on your spindle. It is designed to ride directly on a driven axle with a key to hold it in place. Like a riding lawnmower rear axle for example or a cart like a Dingo that uses that same style axle.

Darn...I was surprised that such a large tire/wheel came in a 1in bore! Oh well... Back to the drawing board. I can assume that I'm not gonna find anything that size or larger in a 1in bore then?

What is the significance of a 1" bore? The wheels that use a set of internal flange bearings like what your stock units are on the Spiderbox are 1-3/8" ID (what you call bore) http://www.*************/High-Speed-W...38_p_1608.html .
If you are trying to find wheels that are 8" diam to run larger size tires I don't think you will find any that are designed to use internal bearings, I looked around a good bit and never saw any and thus went with a 4x110mm hub from a Carter Talon. Something else is the flange bearings are junk since most are made in China and they just do not hold up to the lateral forces that you put on them in a steer wheel setup. We broke the flanges off of two brand new high speed bearings ordered from BMI within a day of installing them and my daughter does not drive the buggy that hard! I suggest buying hubs/wheels to get the 8" size you desire. |

Dave, THAT was the answer I was looking for! I was worried that with only one point holding the wheel on, AND letting it rotate, there would be some structural weaknesses! Thank you. I'll just look for a scrapper kart nearby like you did, or just buy the parts off the web... Thanks again!
