Default loud grinding noise

I have a helix 150 go kart and when i try to put it into forward it makes a loud screeching grinding noise. It wont idle at the moment as it is a project i got and when you lift it up and spin the tires backwards then put it into reverse it will go backwards. What is causing this noise? is the shifter at the engine not going forwards enough? Please HELP!

You need to have the engine at the correct idle speed or the transmission will not engage properly and eventually come apart or strip the engagement gears. focus on getting the engine to idle and try it again. Sometimes the cables stretch, but that normally effects the reverse only.

I agree with master If that takes care of gear problem and noise persist may be your belt. Open up your CVT cover and see what's going on. Leave the cover off till you fix the problem. Your not going to be fond of opening and closing the cover .

Well i tried starting in gear (forward) and it works so I just gotta get it to idle now because it only runs when giving it gas.

Start with pulling the carb off and cleaning it thoroughly. Then clean out the tank and probly a good idea to replace the fuel hose and filter, if it has one. I am willing to bet the tiny little hole in the pilot jet is plugged. Be sure to note the position of the pilot screw before removing it, and reinstall it the same after cleaning. It took 3 tries to get mine to idle when I picked it up from sitting a few seasons.
