Default show me your homemade windshields and how you attached them.

I am going to be installing a plexi-glas windshield on my yerf dog. I am pretty sure I know how I'm going to do it, but I just thought I'd see what others have done.

I'd get too much mud on it to see thru while racing; i run window netting across the whole front hoop opening. After the race in the pic, I added thin acrylic to 6" up top and about 2' of the bottom of the opening to keep the worst of it off me. Still leaves an 18" or so gap with no windshield at eye level. Hole punched and ziptied to the hoop. anything strong enough to break through it (it can withstand a golf ball hit from 175 yards away-- I know that for a fact) will get caught by the netting.

word of warning re. plexi. it discolors (yellows/browns out) in UV rays and gets brittle. It also cracks real easy at edges and when cutting/drilling. You're better off with lexan. For either, I'd weld some flat tabs inside the hoop and added a rubber spacer sheet between the windshield and tab. Oversize hole for the bolt, with a nylon spacer as thick as the windshield and a nylon or rubber washer under the bolt head.

Looks like some are using zipties, but I guess we've got some split locking collars too! I think if I do a little wind shield I'll just go the route and get some solid, metal fasteners to do it. Oh wait, I wasn't the one considering the windshield. OR WAS I?!?!

Yep. Acrylic would be a better option. Not quite as impact resistant, but half the cost.

I've been contemplating on a windshield. Putting weather strips on the rollbar and laying the plexi on it as cushion and drilling holes into the plexi and tie wrapping it. When drilling holes in plexi don't drill to close to the edge or it will crack. You also must drill slowly or it will also crack. Just my thought. And one more thing lots of people use lexan as bird mentioned. Its safer in case your buggy rolls it don't cut your head off.
