Welding Cart/Table
Well guys since I got my welder I did some practicing and felt ready to take on my first project.
Here it is; almost complete. I just need to get a top steel plate/sheet, paint, and mount my vise on it. The two tiers are stainless angle, the legs are steel angle, and I got the castors from my little toolbox.

looks good. Couple things to consider adding ...
2 gang outlet under the top shelf with about 25' of HD gauge extension cord. Makes life so much easier being able to plug the welder and grinders etc in at the cart. pivoting & extension head work light--the type with the pantograph style arm. |

Thanks X!
The outlets I did plan on doing. The light... How did I forget ???? Thanks.

Bench vise! Last thing you want is a piece you are grinding to slip out of your hands.
Never mind

Update on project:
Still no top. So adding some 45 degree braces and additional top and leg support. Also making a moveable bracket that mounts my mitre saw. Making saw field same flush height welding cart. That way the material I am cutting will be supported. In process of design now. Soon thought goes to metal.

I have my detachable mitre saw platform frame work done.
"Have to turn your head left I can never make these pictures straight." I used some twisted iron I found and some more stainless angle. Made the tabs and mounted the saw's field flush with top. When ever I get a top to my table I can always add washers or shims to raise the saw. (not pictured) I did weld some washers to the twisted metal ends to keep it from sliding off the side of tabs.

Still searching for a top plate But in the mean time I found these old brackets that use to encase a fireplace barrier. So....... it is steel, so...I shall weld it. I am going to add some 3/4" square tubing 4 feet in height to the top of each bracket. Where a another 3/4" square tube will be a cross bar. The top of the cross bar will hold a 4' fluorescent light ballast, to hang over the work station. You can see where I drilled 2 holes at the top of those brackets. That is where I will insert a small bolt and nut so I can fold, raise or lower the light ballast assembly.

Is that a stick welder? If so what sticks do you Guy's use and amperage setting for your buggys? I'm trying to teach myself how to weld. I have an arc welder that looks some what like yours from hourbor freight. I bought the 6010/6013/sticks... 3/32...1/8 rods. My welds look clonky but very strong. I like it to look nice not clonky.

This is what I have. my wife got it for me, was not my 1st choice but was happy she didnt spend more on a tool that should be a personal choice. It takes the guess work out of amperage with only two settings and I just play around with the wire speed. welds are not always the neatest but they are really starting to not look so clonky LOl. I am nervous about welding my current buggy, so I will keep practicing and wait till I get a project buggy for cheap.

I meant 6011 not 6010 rods. Mainly need to know what rod and amprage. Making it look nice like dimes I know that will take time.

I want to keep my first franken buggy simple so my idea is to get something like a cross fire or baja 150 and take a 250 buggy engine and make it a single seater.
250 engine in 150 light fram. maybe a IRS too. Will see what the future holds, but for now more practice is needed.

Having welded quite a bit before but by no means an expert I would say a 6010,6011, and a 6013 is for vertical welding with amperage of about 85 to 110 depending on the thickness of the metal and 7014 is good for horizontal welding with the same amperage starting point. if it doesn"t burn into the metal good raise the amperage.

Update
Still no plate. I think I will just purchase from online
On the other hand my workstation is now lighted. I just need to weld my pulley system on. and attach either ropes or cable. Lights up ready to work. Lights down ready for storage or transporting under garage door.

you"re welcome. I have a old miller 225 amp stick welder that very seldom gets used. Most of the time I use my Lincoln 180 amp mig welder. I have it set to weld with or without gas.
