gy6 timing chain
need to know how to replace timing chain--keeps jumping timing-replaced tensioner no help--runs great for 5 min then jumps timing-do i have to split case to get chain off bottom gear

i'm pretty sure you can do it without going through a teardown by carefully using a chain breaker and a piece of wire to keep one end from falling in. the new chain will have to have a master link and you'll likely need to make a stiff wire half loop to feed the new one down, around and back up.

I've actually just pressed the pin out of one and drove it back into the link. Making sure to try and "mushroom" the link after re-installed.
As for fishing the chain around the gear, I just use a magnet on a stick. Just did it this last week end.

Tie the new chain to the old one that you cut and feed it thru.

thanks guys--from the way it looks, will have to open case--need to check teeth on bottom gear any way--cant see down in there good enough to be sure about teeth (half blind lol) not looking forward to pulling engine out again, just did top engine rebuild about a month ago,new cylinder,piston, rings,and head with larger valves, really ran great much more torque and top end well worth the effort
