Default Hello all, i am new to buggys and go karts.

hello all. I just wanted to introduce my self. i am new to all off road toys. got my first taste of a quad a few weeks back and now i MUST buy an off road toy. I have my eye on buggys cause my 5 year old son will be riding with me 90% of the time. figure its the safest bet. I just dont know what size motor i need. People tell me 150cc is fine. but i rode a 250 quad and it felt like it was the right amount of power for 1 person. ( was in the sand) so any recommendations are welcomed. i would LOVE to keep it under $2000 seeing as i am testing the waters. im in central cali.

want to use it for dirt, moutains, and sand.

welcome King, if you think you would need more power, they do make these buggies with about any size engine you would like. just remember though, bigger the engine, more expensive the parts. that's the good part about the 150cc carts, parts are very reasonable for them.

Yes I've been looking at Craigslist. How hard would it be to get more power out of a 150 cc buggy if needed? And a guess on the cost. I'm looking at a 2005 twister 150 cc. He wants 700$

Default Endless!

There are a TON of aftermarket mods for the 150 engines in every part of the motor from intake to the cvt! you can literally set up the buggy for what you want it to do performance wise for you personally! I would highly recommend a 150 as the first buggy you purchase! they are also much simpler to work on!!! oh by the way welcome to the best buggy forum going!

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I am gonna go check out the 150 tomorrow. Is there anything you guys would look at when buying a used buggy? Gonna test drive it for sure. But should I look for any thing specific?

Default patience

First make sure it is a buggy you can still get body, and suspension parts for it! second see if it is a 2 bolt or 4 bolt valve cover engine (4 bolt has more parts available) third see if it has internal or external reverse or reverse at all! after that look for the obvious stuff i.e. rust, cracks in frame, or any "jerry rigging" of any type! last of all consider what they are asking for the buggy compared to the condition and the market right now! lots of buggy's out there for sale right now so don't settle for anything less than what you're looking for and are willing to pay! it literally took me 9 months of looking to find what I was looking for and a alot of people on here will tell you the same thing! good luck!!!
