Default gear reduction sprocket

i have purchased another kart, this one has dual chains with another sprocket thats being referred to a reduction sprocket. The cart is a manco bandit 2, im wondering if you can just remove it and go direct to the axle sprocket? im picking it up today and needs some tlc and putting back together. I have ordered a predator motor for it to replace the 4hp robin that doesnt run. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

That sprocket is for what the name implies. "gear reduction" meaning it raises the overall gear ratio to improve pulling power. you can bypass the sprocket and go directly to the axle if you plan to run strictly pavement.
most likely fry clutches if you try trail riding.

On this particular model it was used to limit the speed to 10mph for younger kids.

going to leave the reduction in, the new preadator motor is sick!!!! I bought a little taller tire 2 inches to be exact, it should be good for another 5mph.
